Malik Turner has me not so worried about losing Gallup

You can go find a guy like Shultz they are available in FA and the draft. Dak made Shultz, not the other way around. I like Shultz, but he is not worth the money he will get offered.

Perhaps the most naïve thing I have ever read you post.

I’m curious as to what you take issue with? I agree with him. Schultz is a good player that someone else will pay great money.

When Jarwin went down last year Schultz stepped up. Is that because of Dak? If so, why was Dak not finding him before?

Or did Schultz step up because he had figured it out and the team found they had a player they had overlooked? Schultz seems to find that soft spot in the middle, and his contribution creates positive ripples throughout the passing game. Collinsworth mentioned this during the telecast that teams are doubling the outside and Schultz makes them pay.

I am truly torn between losing Gallup or Schultz, and I am leaning toward Schultz being resigned and looking for a speedy deep threat. Somewhat like the Chiefs have.

I will admit Schultz has been a pet cat of mine since day one. So there may be a little jaded in my assessment. But this guy catches almost everything thrown at him. And after learning the Tiki Barber ball hug in traffic, he is holding onto the rock now like we have never seen before.
So I do not believe you can go find a guy like him, especially drafting last in each round, as Dallas surely will find themselves.:starspin:

This next draft Dallas needs a center and a tackle. A linebacker or two, and a receiver. I'd prefer Schultz stay.

Make no mistake, so would I. But based on his numbers, there's just no way Dallas can afford him.

Rework Smith (Or cut him), Martin, Lawrence, Dak, Coop, Zeke. Cut Esch. Maybe cut Jarwin.

Still need to figure out C Williams. say goodbye to Gallup (I hate that.)

There is money there plus the rise in cap.

They will all be free agents.

Gallop, wilson and turner.

gallop is going to cost too much to resign. He is going to want to sign somewhere else.

you can’t have that many number ones.

ceedee and amari are what makes the offense tick. You might be able to resign turner for sure and maybe even Wilson. But you need to also develop other young receivers if you can’t sign them for cheap

Good question.

Similar to what Randall Cobb got with us but taking into account the new salary cap.

$7 - 9 million a season. 4 to 5 years.

If Coop or Lamp go down we still have Gallup who knows how to play with Dak.

I would even sign Cedric Wilson if possible and Malik Turner. If all of these signings come as a nice package price we have 5 Wr’s already knowing their roles and our scheme. They also have 4 to 5 years left in them.

2 year deals are fine too.

Lambs got another 2 years on his. I think we still get the 5th year option which would make it 3. After next year we decide what we want to do with Cooper if we have to. He’s worth his current contract when healthy.

Now you get to make sure the o-line is always optimal and you decide what you want to do at RB with Zeke.

yah I think you are way off. Im thinking 12-17 million per year no problem. Cowboys wont resign him.

Kenny Golladay, who has been hurt much more than Gallup got 18 million per year for 4 years.

Cobb is an over the hill WR on his last legs.

I agree that Gallup is the more polished receiver.. but I do like Turner's run after catch ability and Wilson is such a special team ace and Dak's best friend on the team after Zeke.. Plus the team did win 6 in a row without Gallup.. Just sayin..

Gallup is a gross luxury.

Fehoko is another name to keep in mind. They drafted him last year knowing they had significant turnover coming at receiver. They knew he needed polish and coaching but they also made sure to keep him around and protect him from being poached.

He will factor in next year.

I think Schultz not getting enough reps is because of the coaching staff. when you are TE2, you get different plays, less plays and different routes than TE1. once Schultz got the same opportunity as Jarwin, it was obvious he was better than Jarwin.

I am more worried about losing Schultz than Gallup. Wilson, not in the same level as gallup, but was good and above average in his absence....and hopefully other WRs can step up too. keeping gallup is a luxuary. having a reliable and good TE is a necessasity to a successful offense.

I appreciate that Schultz has been clutch, but he generally does not get open on his own and he is limited as a contested ball receiver.
- The attention that defenses give to the Cowboys elite WRs gives Schultz opportunities.
- Kellen Moore also often schemes him open on 3rd downs.

Witten could get open regardless of coverage.
- Some elite TEs do it with speed.
- Schultz isn't really in either category.

If Schultz was a plus blocker then I would be more in favor of giving him a decent contract, but he is limited as a blocker.

The team should make him a reasonable (reasonable for the team) contract offer and let him & the market decide if he stays.

I'm with you on Schultz. Gallup is a better player, but will also cost more.

I would’ve believed it based on his college film but he looked fat, slow, and not very agile in the preseason.

Also, he doesn’t have good hands.

I loved what I saw at Stanford but what I saw in the preseason is nothing that gives me confidence going forward.

Im not saying to give up on him obviously but definitely don’t depend on him.

Schultz
I think there are plenty of TEs that could match Schultz if given the same opportunties.
- No guarantees if they swap Schultz for another player, but in general Schultz is not an elite talent.
- The Cowboys elite WRs really open things up for Schultz.
- Kellen Moore often schemes him open on 3rd downs.
- Schultz is limited as a blocker. Better blocker than Jarwin but not by much.

Sean McKeon
I think McKeon might be a similar player to Schultz if he gets the opportunity.
- Before posting this, I went back an reviewed McKeon from this season.
- He is a similar blocker (maybe better) to Schultz with similar size/athleticism.
- McKeon made a key open field block on the big run after catch play but Turner.

I think TE might be top 3 on the Cowboys wish list going into the draft.
- An elite receiving TE would really have helped in the games where the offense was sluggish.

I think Gallup is not as easily replaceable as people think. His plays in games are “different” than someone who can just catch or make moves. They involve usually toe dotting sideline catches. Big 3rd down catches. Tough twisting catches. Basically he makes difficult catches on big downs and makes them look easy. There is a fine line between these plays and some 3rd guy who can be shifty middle of the field. JMO

I agree, Schultz is not elite...but he is really good....Elite is a hard status to reach. perhaps there are only two elite type TEs, Kelce and Kittle. some may argue for Mark Andrews....but they do it year in year out....

Schultz is 4th in TEs stats right now. he is 4th in yards, 5th in TDs, 3rd in receptions, 6th in targets. so that's pretty good and that's not as easily replaced IMHO

agreed that schultz is limited in blocking. there are very few TEs that are good in all phases of the game. does he benefit from WRs? yes, but I think teams have to account for him as well, which helps the WRs.

I don't have as much faith in McKeon, but regardless I think we do need two TEs as our offense was elite from two TE formations, which allows us to run and pass, specially with the WR group we have and the TEs being able to catch. our offense hasn't been as potent since Jarwin is lost, although Jarwin is not a blocking TE neither, but teams have to account for two TE sets.

I think for our draft you maybe right, our wish list maybe Saftey, DE and then any of TE, OL, LB.....
