C’mon on Jethro. Mortgage the future . Go all in like the Rams did this year. What do you have to lose?

Yes, because 26 more years of not winning a championship is better. I just as soon be the worst team in the league if we arent winning a super bowl.

Sean Payton would never make the Cowboys better if fans truly believe Dak isn’t a good QB. Payton had his success with a Hall of Fame QB. Not having a quality QB caused him to step down. Very difficult for any head coach to win without a good QB.

i like mccarthy.
i think he's a good coach and should get the length of his contract.
but i do think sean payton has an excellent mind for offense and would get the most out of our QB.
this will be interesting to watch how it plays out.
there seems to be a history of mutual interest.
if not this year then probably next...sean payton will be our next hc.
in the mean time...im gonna root like hell we win it all next season.

Smarter play calling
Smarter scheming for mismatches
Better game and clock management
Gets more out of talent
He’s a vastly superior coach to MM, whom I’m still not sure what does exactly

It may not improve the penalties situation either. Only twice in the last 10 years were the Saints ranked in the top 10 of least penalized teams

The assumption is he is eventually coming to the Cowboys but what if he likes that stress free cushy life of broadcasting? I am sure he's spoken with Brees several times about that and he's seen Brees do one of the best jobs l've seen for a first timer.

I could be wrong about the timing of the cap and dismantling in New Orleans and it's more about the opening now. If Aikman bolts, he probably gets a shot at that and Buck gets to introduce him as One Time Super Bowl Winner Sean Payton every freaking time he introduces him. I hope Aikman leaves just to not to have to watch that anymore.

Exactly. You had a coach in MM that watched this team get penalized all year… and watched the offense not adjust back to defenses and he did nothing. And people want that guy back?

Why is Peyton better?

- he knows offense
- he knows quarterbacks. Go look at Jameis numbers until he got hurt.
- great relationship with JJ. To where JJ may get out of the way.
- He’s respected around football. It brings credibility back to this organization.

We lost a playoff game cause of 3 things. Penalties…. Inability to adjust on offense…. And qb play. If Peyton comes in and even improves one of those your most likely still playing football right now

Best way to ruin a great friendship is either to sleep with or go to work for that friend.

Well he's got his Taysom Hill(Dak) here already. I hope they don't allow him to regin over the roster. We don't need mistakes like Hill here, actually the cowboys can't afford mistakes like that at all!

...that's what I'm wondering, CC. He's won one SB. Some of his teams have been pretty good over the years.

This is just human bias at its best. Gamblers fallacy. No telling he's the guy for the team.

Looking at coaches in playoffs. You have McVay, Taylor, Shananhan..etc. Reid being only Veteran.

This is just random picking. New kids on the block with beginners luck rolling 7's.

This could be what Dallas might need as well. New kid on the block.

As much as I wanted him to replace Parcells back when he was here, I am not sure he could solve the various problems with the Cowboys, especially with his close friendship with Jerry.

That said, part of me has always wondered what he could do with the Cowboys if given the chance.

At the risk of another Payton thread, I am a little confused by all of this Payton love.

Just how does he make this team better? Do you think he gets more control than the other coaches not named Johnson or Parcells?

If not for the Saints defense, they're picking in the top 5 and maybe he's sticking around instead of running from the mess he's made.

He was far more dependent on Brees than Belichick was on Brady.

If you get the chance to watch that Rams-Saints playoff game, the no call PI game, pay close attention to the end of that game and the plays being called. If not for that ref snafu, that's all people are talking about and that was all that Buck and Aikman were talking about. Aikman was flabbergasted. It was really dumb play calling.

Do you really think Payton is the guy to turn this into a deep run playoff team? Why? Because he's done that in the past? Didn't Parcells and McCarthy do that too?

The last thing this team needs to be giving is giving up 1st round draft picks because those are the only ones they are consistent with and this team needs talent as much as it needs a HC, probably more so.
He will run the offense properly at a minimum. No stupidity like featuring zeke.

He gives dumb cowboy fans hope and reasons to keep coming back to this dumpster fire of a franchise

Good point............Jerry needs to slap a fresh new coat of paint on this thing to keep the fans interested and Payton would do that.

Because if we lose Quinn and are stuck with Fat Mike and Wonder Boy this thing is going to go sideways so fast its not even funny. But on the bright side Payton will have a high pick to work with in 23.

And why would Payton want to come here. He knows the deal . Go somewhere without the drama and dysfunction.

Cowboys are like the graveyard of coaching.
He is personal friends with Jerry Jones, coached for the Cowboys under Parcells, and Sean Payton lives in Dallas during the offseason (Highland Park if I remember correctly).

And supposedly the Cowboys tried to trade for Payton back in 2019 but the deal fell through. So that is a lot of dots to connect, not saying its going to happen, but its not as far fetched as people are making it sound.
