With a cool $64M earned in each of the past 2 years, I'd be pining to re-up too. And he didn't have to run to Cabo either. But the NFL is doing well so "pay the man!" Lol.

He's the owners human shield and cleaner. They couldn't be happier with him taking all of the bullets for their decisions. The money is outrageous, but it's what they offered to pay him.

I think NFL can do better than Goodell. The last 2 NFL commissioners Paul Tagliabue and especially Pete Rozelle were better commissioners that Goodell

Another candidate might be better for the sport but would that person be better for the owners? In my opinion, the owners are always looking out for themselves. Goodell has excelled in that capacity beyond what Tagliabue and Rozelle did for the owners during their tenure.

Goodell is a puppet for the owners. He is exactly what they want...someone he gets his hands dirty and takes the heat, so they can sit back and not take the blame. Goodell role as the villian is exactly why he is worth the money they pay him. They don't want a Tagliabue or Rozelle trying to make institutional changes.

Rozelle did more for the NFL than either of them and took on bigger challenges. NFL\AFL merger, the beginnings of TV coverage of the NFL, race relations in the NFL. In my view Rozelle made the biggest impact on the NFL and it's growth than any commissioner for the league

I don’t understand how the league is ok with his leadership. A monkey could make the owners money with this product. In every other way, Goodell is terrible.

I agree except for financial growth. Goodell has accomplished more in that department than both Rozelle and Tagliabue combined. The owners' main consideration has been the expansion of their bottom line, for which they have rewarded Goodell with multiple contract extensions.

Rozelle was the one who brought national TV to the NFL, when he took over teams had individual TV contracts, it was Rozelle who sold the NFL to the national TV networks with teams sharing the profits of the TV contracts. It Was Rozelle who pushed and got Monday Night Football which was a big hit for many years

All true. Goodell took the foundation Rozelle had already established and helped the league profit upon it exponentially more. Rozelle did all the hard work of which Goodell has exploited by leaps-and-bounds.

Can’t stand Goodell. Hoping his name is leaked in the Washington scandal and he gets canned somehow.

The league is corrupt and in need of some reforms, but Goodell has done very little to improve anything except the bottom line— which is apparently all the owners care about.

The league is a joke compared to what it used to be.
