SBJ: Roger Goodell reportedly negotiating a contract extension past 2024

It's ridiculous how much money he gets paid and how much power he wields.

He doesn't wield nearly as much power as he's given credit for by fans.

I see people blame him for rule changes, and other things, that are decided by specific committees or negotiated into the CBA.

I agree except for financial growth. Goodell has accomplished more in that department than both Rozelle and Tagliabue combined. The owners' main consideration has been the expansion of their bottom line, for which they have rewarded Goodell with multiple contract extensions.

It's ridiculous how much money he gets paid and how much power he wields.

IMO -The actual power Goodell yields is just over players with regards to their actions on and off the field.
The broadcast rights for the networks -traditional \ longtime partners - CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX - plus the newcomers (Nickelodeon, etc) -- you and me could negotiate (with some knowlegable assistance ).
The 32 franchise owners collectively control & dictate the commissioner & the league office on how to deal with vast majority of problems, issues, and concerns.
