I think he is ok as a 3rd DE. His numbers where pretty good last year. Not a bad guy to play 400-500 snaps.

No. ‘Not a bad guy’. But not one you pay big money to keep either. And not another player the team and fans suddenly prop up so they can feel better.

Parsons is your main event as a pass rusher, but you want to he able to drop him in coverage too. You want to go into the season with a guy like Armstrong as a rotational guy that can keep guys fresh. Not quite as someone who you want rushing in place of Parsons.

The money he gets is key. If its small enough, it doesnt take us out of the pass rusher market. FWIW Fisher was saying his sources in the organization say an Armstrong extension doesnt effect them looking at outside rushers

Small money I won’t take issue with. But I don’t want to hear anybody talking up Armstrong as the ‘answer’. It’s sickening.

We buy who we can afford...what's wrong with Armstrong at the right price? It certainly means we can use Micah on the line more, has money for Kearse, a LB, also gives us cover if we can't draft an edge and will maybe leave money to upgrade D-Line.
Some fans are obsessed with names....Keep Calm and trust in Quinn
Players like Armstrong are disposable and can easily be replaced with mid-round draftees that may actually develop into decent players. At this point, they know that Armstrong is already bumping his head on his ceiling and he is what he is. At least a mid-round rookie draft prospect has the chance of developing, but Armstrong reached jag status long ago and that is his ceiling.

we did that in last years draft. We have pieces in place and they are good ones. Urban can play end as well, if we resign him. We will certainly draft 1, but I think Stevie thinks we can use cheap drafted guys and journeyman...lol..We shall see.

IMO, that's not going to happen.

They currently have

RDE : Armstrong, Basham
LDE : Lawrence, Golston.

They likely draft the 5th rotational passer.

Lol lol exactly, surely we can get a Fowler or Barnett sheesh

He's better than people give him credit for...and still with some upside as he just had his best season with more snaps and will only be 25 this year. If the contract is not too bad then this could be a good move.

It's almost like they don't bother scouting 31 teams unless they are of the waiver wire quality.

I mean, if the deal is cheap, it's fine, but it's just mind boggling to me that they would offer RG 14mil per with 27mil gtd but not really bother with any other FA DE in the same price range.

We used to have the best pro scouting department in the league. Those days are gone.

So Dorace Armstrong... or 2nd year, 3rd round pick Chauncey Gholston as starting RDE ?
Is this the long term fixture ? :(

Good if the contract is low and he isn't auto-slated to be the starter. Good rotation guy, not someone I am hoping to give us all the answers at RDE.
