Twitter: Would you sign Baker Mayfield as a backup if he accepts role and is cheap?

That $19 million price tag is going to be tough on a team to bring him in just to compete. The trading team could extend him and get some relief but I wonder if anyone believes in him that much. Cleveland might have to wait for an injury, as ghoulish as that sounds, to create more of a market.

Teams do crazy things when they’re desperate for a QB. Just look around at all the draft picks that have been coughed up for Matt Stafford, Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson. Someone is going to give him a chance to be their starter. If Carson Wentz keeps getting opportunities and Sam Darnold got another opportunity along with Mitch Trubisky it’s almost a given Mayfield will be starting for someone next season.

Didn’t Mayfield just sign a big extension? If so, then his contract is going to be a huge limitation on teams who might be interested in him.

If he was cut, and would play for backup money, yeah I would pay a premium backup money to get him in the fold. He needs a change of scenery. Maybe the Cowboys would be enticing to him (if all other things were equal).

I could see Baker beating Dak out at some point. Dak played VERY poorly down the stretch last year. Let’s not forget that. Second half of the year Dak was pretty much backup material.

You would think so. Mayfield’s attitude is a blessing and a curse. It really all depends on how the team receiving him views it.

so going just by stats since you seem like a stat only guy. youre basically telling me that Dak is a better QB or just as good as Brady, Herbert, Stafford, Mahomes, Burrow, Allen and Rogers? Because if you compare just raw stats he stacks up with the best of them. To me he isnt anywhere near those guys. He more like Kirk Cousins who had 4221 yards 33 TD's 66% completion and nearly identical passer rating 103.1 vs 104.2. Now for QB's who had inferior stats, Jackson and Murray, and Wilson I would rather have either one of those three vs Dak .

That's what happens when you heavily depend on stats. Dak, although better than Mayfield, is a lot closer to Mayfield than any of the QBs you've mentioned. I don't look at any QB stats, they bore me. Anyone that watches the game can easily see who the best QBs in the league are.

Stats are fine, but they never tell you how they came to be. So they're often twisted to support a narrative. Often a false one. Which is why they are considered one of the three greatest lies.

No. You never want your back up to get as much or more attention than your starter, and Mayfield isn’t at the point where he’s going to quietly accept a #2 role.

A #1 overall QB as Daks backup just four years after being drafted? Hell no. This would cause such a divided locker room.

No. He's a high draft pick who's been a starter, he'd leave as soon as some other team offered him a starting job. And if his contract prohibited that, he'd be an unhappy camper and cause dissention on the team.

Stick with Rush or somebody else..

don't push the baby dak, get a no-arm quarterback to backup dak. Fear is bad enough from pressure, we don't need him worrying about losing his job to another quarterback. sheesh.

Him in a nutshell......know some fans/posters don't wanna believe it. Hell, notice how bad the Browns wanted to move on and who the Falcons and Saints just signed rather than calling Mayfield. But, he can beat out Dak.......
