Hopes of a big signing are dashed once again. The fan base is becoming more deflated with each passing day of free agency. lol
The fan base is is divided into groups,
hardcore fans like many here at CZ
semi hardcore which follow on twitter , news, internet
Casual fans.

Casual fans are the biggest group and they dont follow all this stuff, they dont think much about cowboys during off season.
whatever team the jones boys put on the field come sept, will be fine with them !
Casual fans are probably 75% of total cowboy fans. They buy whatever jones boys sell them.

I hate Jerry. I hate Stephan.

I don’t know why I’m torturing myself yet here I am.

Worst off-season ever, all self inflicted

It’s funny how fans here don’t want to pay any of our own good players but they want to bring out the Brinks truck for someone else’s players. Fans want new blood at any cost.

Did anybody actually believe that there was any chance of signing this guy or any other decent free agent?
Smith and Wagner may or may not be worth what they got. your partly buying a name and past rep, buying one of those guys.
So no big deal on missing on those 2.
The key is to find those guys in draft where you get years of top play, and let them make the name or rep playing for you.
Cowboys got one in parsons, they just need to find some more.

going big in FA is only smart if you think you have a chance at SB run, and currently cowboys are not close to that.
They have too many weak areas, and mike and kellen, are going to fail on offense no matter who they have on offense.

Quinn proved he was good DC, and all these guys you guys have wanted are def players, which would have made the defense better, but probably
not enough to overcome our weak offense.

Cowboys are at best a playoff team, that gets eliminated by div round in 22. That is all I expect .

Cowboys all in year was 2021 lol and they were one and done. weak offense, couldnt even execute that last play properly.
Same guys who engineered that play and 2nd half slump, are still here, only no cooper or wilson.

best hope for cowboys is to get some good players in draft. They got 1 player last year, parsons, and will draft lower spot this year.

Smith is a gamble, one we would have been filled with hope over, but a gamble. We have seen what a bad back does. Smith played one game after surgery in the playoffs and was not a factor. Maybe he gets back to what he was, but who knows.

Agree but arguably you need to speculate to accumulate in the NFL these days.

Your starting DL in 2022

DE - Lawrence
DT - Gallimore
DT - Osa or Hill
DE - Armstrong or Fowler

That's about as mediocre as it gets. This front office never freaking learns.
couple of injuries in training camp or during the season, we have scrubs stinking up our season

That’s not remotely accurate. Almost everyone wants to get better. Simply resigning your own guys usually isn’t enough for that. When both are healthy and available, Smith is a significant upgrade to Gregory. So many of us are scratching our heads as to why they wouldn’t offer Gregory’s contract to Smith. Apparently it would have been enough.

This is the issue across all of FA. I think most people are happy with the signings that have been made. It’s the signings the Cowboys have let go by or not even gotten in on that are the issue. Yet again the Jones boys are showing they would rather maintain status quo and are happy being relevant rather than actually improve and challenge for a bowl.

Although I agree, but there are teams that are in Super Bowls after only winning 4 or 6 games the previous season. You didn't think the Cowboys had any chance after the 2016 season? They did the same thing then too, nothing. The Cowboys went 12-5 last season. They weren't great, but they weren't miles away. What do the Jones boys need to see?

It’s very accurate! Many don’t want to pay Dak, they would rather have a lesser QB at a lower price. You’re not going get better with Baker Mayfield, Mitch Trubisky, Carson Wentz or Marcus Mariota. Many would rather go with one of those QBs over Dak because they’re cheaper. Many are glad Cooper is gone because they didn’t want to pay him despite being our best receiver. Many would love to get rid of Zeke and his contract if they could. Many fans aren’t happy DLaw re-signed. Smith is an upgrade over Gregory and fans wouldn’t have been disappointed in the least if the Cowboys overpaid to get him.

He may have wanted more money to come to Dallas. Signing your own players is enough if you have a lot of real good players. Free agency is a good way to supplement your team or fill a hole with a proven player but if you try to build a team through free agency you’ll get burned. Most free agents are overpaid and never perform to the level of their contracts. You’re basically rewarding a player for what they did for another team. The draft has always been the best way to build a great team.
