The Dallas Cowboys have addressed all but one of their major needs this offseason

As it stands offensive line is the biggest position of need for the Cowboys and the best answer for that might in fact come during next month’s draft. This week we launched a series on the Blogging The Boys YouTube Channel (make sure to subscribe which you can do right here) called ‘Mock Draft Monday’ (a name that nobody has ever used before!) where we run through mock drafts to figure out options that would work well for the Cowboys.

When Dallas was on the clock we were fortunate enough to be sitting in a spot where Tyler Linderbaum, Kenyon Green, and Zion Johnson were all there. Obviously this was just one exercise and one of many ways that things could play out a few weeks from now, but seeing a world where Dallas has options should make us all feel better about the glaring need at left guard at the moment.

It is possible that the Cowboys do still look to add a veteran to their offensive front in line with how they tend to approach free agency in general. The initial waves of the acquisition period are over, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t find someone like they did Ty Nsekhe last year (although that was a bit earlier in the process than now).

If history is any indication the Cowboys will add an offensive lineman at some point before the draft. Time will tell.

They are in better shape than most on here will give them credit for.
Yes on paper they seem to have taken a stamp back. But have they really, when you look at the overall picture and future cap space and possible replacement players that are not here yet.

They need to address the OL still, and not just in the draft.
However that can be addressed after the draft as well. Some decent OL for a stop gap player will get released before TC.

They can get an OL or 2 as well, LB, DT, S, TE in the draft.

Amari, Randy, and La'el were big losses and they haven't brought in anyone close to their caliber to replace them, nor have they reallocated funds to bring in a difference maker at another position. It's looking like they're going into the draft assuming that Dorance Armstrong is a viable starter and Lambo/Gallup coming off of injury will somehow be at least on par to that group with Amari. Not a good look but I'm getting a positive feeling about this season for some reason. Idk, we'll see.

Cooper was a big loss but we’ll be fine at receiver. Gregory and Collins were both unreliable screwups that we’ll be better off without.

They were also productive players on the field. Gregory was a major part of the pass rush Renaissance in Dallas this year. I'm more concerned about him than Collins. LG is a massive hole and needs a quality player next to a weak C. Collins should've played that role last year and could have this year bit that's all in the past. Need a swing Tackle, LG, RE, LB, and probably a RB thinking ahead going into the draft. Too many holes for my liking and I can think of two that could be filled right now with one signing.

There is no way we can plug all the holes for a Superbowl run. We suck. 6th place ribbon. Best jersey sales.

What makes left guard a bigger need than wide receiver or defensive end based on the players we have?

Not saying I like our options at guard, but are they really any worse than our options at those other positions, particularly if Gallup is likely to miss the start of the season?

The way the Joneses do free agency is to have a possible starter at every position, which allows them to take the so-called BPA. It might be a case like last year where we had Brown as the possible starter at corner, so we really wanted a corner, but we didn't press the issue and ended up taking Parsons. Sure, if a guard is the best option, we'd certainly take one to start over McGovern, but wouldn't we also take a top end to start over Fowler or a top receiver to start over Washington if Gallup is sidelined?

We will have 9 draft choices and by my calculation over 30 million post June 1(Collins 10M Schultz 5?) in salary cap.The second wave of cuts will be a torrent of reliable vets after June 1 and lots of teams that could not wait in March will be out of money. Let the cake bake.

Well I'm not saying we won't make the playoffs but we need to address the o line issue. Collins wasn't exactly having a five star season and I really like Steele, but even Martin isn't the guy he once was. And our Center sucks.

So far I'm not really sure about letting Randy go, but to be honest I don't mind as much as I thought I would. I think we'll be fine there.

I liked watching Gallup alot this season, some great catches right on the side line, he will be a fine wide out. Lamb is the wild card here, can he handle the workload and increased focus without a Cooper getting all the attention? We'll find out I guess.

So in the end we'll probably not be worse off but not exactly better. We should keep a close eye on the other NFCE teams this off season.

And of course we should address the issue at QB. Maybe give a CFL rookie a chance to improve there? Oh wait...

So we're down four players. And the only spot we could be relying on a rookie to start at is LG. So one rookie starter and some fans are saying we won't make the playoffs.
A lot of cliche's being thrown around by the fan base.
Even reading fans complaining we've got too much CAP...as if not spending was our major problem.
We've got CAP left and I agree that there's the potential for a quite sizeable second round of cuts after the draft as this draft will be so unpredictable.

The too much cap anger is funny as heck. Guess they don't know cap dollars roll over from one year to the next. So next year we could go after that big free agent they're always complaining about missing.

Yep agree. I may dispute the amount we've got to spend, the only reason for that is that like most of our decision making for here on in will depend upon how the draft falls....if we take a TE (and looks like one we like maybe available at 4/5) then we won't restructure Schultz.
Your point stands though, that once we've drafted we can reassess need, this time with a pocket full of CAP

2 (lesser) players added and 6 players lost. Not sure the math checks out.
The players we lost were inconsistent and could not be counted on.

Collins suspensions, drug test.

Cooper being taken out of games, no shows on the road. Many of games he legit just quit

Gregory runs hot and cold. Good games against Carolina, New England, Washington. Never played a full season.

We didn’t lose prime Dez, Martin or Ware.

LOL, yeah, so simple, just get an OL or two, LB, DT and S in draft.

You guys love to do this every off-season and excuse what they have done in FA and then the season flops with no real postseason success and you are right back next offseason talking about what a good job they have done and they will fix their issues in the draft.
