Taco was BPA.
No, he was not the top player on the Cowboys draft board.

BPA was RB Dalvin Cook (He was the only remaining player available with a 1st round grade on the Cowboys board).

Ok so what qualifies as BPA?

Each team's board is different.
Draft analysis boards vary

Boards will vary for different reasons and I just dont believe that each team builds their board based on just BPA. Its more of BPA based on team needs or the type of Offense/defense a team runs.
Then there are the character concerns. Personalities and work ethic are taken into consideration.
Most teams won't take a player if they already have a young franchise player at that position.
Most teams have to look at will this player for the next 3 years makes this team better.

To make this Offense better its starts with the OL. Dak has to have a great OL and right now LG is the weakest link.
If a T falls you take him because he most likely can fill in at LG and you hope he takes over for Smith. Win-Win

Looking at our roster, I don't see too many positions that aren't a position of need...

BPA has a different definition this era. It means take best player for your priorities in positing of need.

If BPA is a QB you don’t take that. What you could do though is trade out of your slot to gain more picks .

First, you never know what your needs will be. This team looked set at LB just a couple years ago, for example. Needs are constantly in flux.

Second, if a QB (or some other position) is BPA and you really don’t think you need that position, you absolutely look to trade down. That’s pure BPA strategy.

Third, I can’t think of a position that might be 1st-round BPA this year and not be a position of need for the Cowboys. An RB isn’t going to be BPA. Neither is a TE. Neither is a QB, really, except that they always get overdrafted. Is there another position where a top rookie couldn’t get tons of snaps on this team?

Finally, in later rounds, the differences between players are so small that it’s a non-issue. You might have 5 guys who are all “BPA” at any pick, so take whoever you feel like. That may be a decision between positions, or between ceiling vs. floor, or something else. On the other hand, if someone has fallen and is clearly the best guy out there, grab him or prepare to regret it.

The whole “well acshully you shouldn’t do pure BPA” thing is incredibly overblown. The Cowboys seem to put together a very strong draft board. They should stick to it and pick the BPA or try to trade down, period. (Or trade up to get the last guy in a tier on their board).

No safety, dooms?

I'm itching for a safety in this draft.

I like several.

I would eliminate S.

Kearse and Hooker have two years left on their deal. Izzy is on a rookie deal and Wilson has 1 year left. Unless a Hill, Brisker, Pitre fall into their lap, I don't see them addressing this this season.

I can see them burning a 5th round or 6th on Smoke Monday..

And you know this how?

Areas of need in my view is OG, OC, DT,LB and WR pretty much in that order. I would suggest you take the BPA that fill any of those needs. I think because we look for mid level FA the draft becomes even more critical. I suspect Cowboys will be more active in FA after the draft to fill needs with mid level FA.

i have seen 2-3 mock drafts where Utah LB Lloyd slips to where we are. If that happens please draft him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see another Lamb situation happening for WR. Lamb shouldn't have been there at 17. You can't say that about Burks if he's there at 24. No way is any WR going to be clearly the BPA at pick 24 in this draft.
Shouldn't be.

Not doubting that, but I would love to see that board.

Oh yes indeed, that is exactly what Parsons would be saying.
Everybody understanding how special Parsons was year 1,, just add this pick and Parsons goes insane.
Thats how quickly this back seven can become dominant.
But I get why casual peeps wont get excited about a steal like Loyd or even Dean.

Lloyd is something to get excited about, at least to me. He is the only player in the first that I hope falls to us. Realistically speaking that is. Because I don't expect players like Hutch or the top CB to fall to us.

Dean might actually be there. I'm really not that excited about anyone else that might be there at pick 24. If one of those 2 are there, I'd take him. We can get a starting OL in the 2nd.

I bet Dean falls behind 24, doubtful its too far, and Im not even saying take Dean at 24, just saying that there will be players like him slipping in this first round.
Watch how many teams start trying to trade back in this draft day one.

I give you a like because that wouldnt upset me....
Nor would Linderbaum,or Zion Johnson.
Give me a defensive playmaker or a day one starter on the OL, need both so dont care.

Yeah, it will be interesting to see. But of the players that will probably be available at 24, I'd pick Dean. I can only envision what's realistic. I cannot predict the unpredictable.

Having Dean playing off Parsons shoulder would be instant defense aggressiveness.
Thats why Ive been a Dean advocate just because how lethal that can be with Parsons and Dean, just another chess piece for Quinn, and the defense starts to evolve quickly.
If the board still has a couple OL hovering, and Dean still available, take the chance and trade back in this draft.
I want an xtra 3rd in this draft.

Tha NFL, as you know lad, has changed.
Thus, each team has a need for positions, not some glamour boy looking for instant riches for being good at various things but not great in one skill set or position. We are not likely to find a Deebo.
Clearly, today it is position, position, position. Unless you are Urban "bar hug" Meyer.
