The Cowboys Leave Themselves No Choice But To Hit On Their Draft Picks To Be Successful

The Cowboys, more so than most teams, have to be successful in the draft to be successful on the field. They leave virtually no wiggle room for failure when it comes to draft picks.

It's like this because they chose to do nothing meaningful in free agency or in terms of trades. They paint themselves into a corner which then makes the margin for error in the draft very small.

The Cowboys value their draft picks entirely too much. Where as teams like the Rams take advantage of teams that value their draft picks too much. Do you think the Super Bowl champion Rams are upset that they have Matt Stafford or Jaylon Ramsey instead of an unknown 1st round pick?

The Cowboys have a philosophy problem and it's infected every level of this team. The "we like our guys" mentality is certainly alive and well. We've seen the front office give guys contracts they did not deserve simply because we drafted them. This is another example of the Cowboys over valuing their draft picks too much and why they are seemingly getting left behind in the modern day NFL.

Compared to what’s out there at LG, I’ll take Smith.

Turner is average and Flowers is overpaid

What is the consensus board?

This is nothing new. They use the draft to hope to acquire talent, and use FA to find diamonds in the rough/depth.

Yup, they dumpster dive in free agency and put all their eggs into the draft basket.
If they don't have a great drafts their talent level drops tremendously.
I just don't understand this philosaphy.

Do any other teams do this as consistently as the Cowboys? I can't think of any off the top of my head. It seems most teams try to get better in free agency AND the draft instead of putting all your eggs into the draft basket like the Cowboys do.

I mean, even the Browns are out here making big trades now.

Are we the new Browns?

It's gotten just that bad.
Did you ever think we would be looking up to/at the Browns and the Bengals?

We were 12-5 last year. The defense looked way better and we had the number one offense in yards. Fix the OLine and continue building up on the defensive side of the ball has been said by fans since the season ended. Their first pick in the draft was an OL. I expect three more offensive picks and five defensive players this draft. So it seems the front office just might get it right in this draft. Time will tell.

Yeah the draft is really the Cowboys free agency. Off topic a little bit. It seems some teams are crying poor and don’t want to pay their elite players. The AJ. Brown trade makes me wonder that with revenues and the cap rising are some of the owners just keeping the extra cash for themselves. I will keep my eyes on the Bengals……..

We knew this before last night. It's been discussed here for years.

It seems every year people get their hopes up that the Jones boys are going to do something different then are surprised when it doesn't happen.

When do we ever build on a successful season? Yes, we were 12-5 last year, but do you believe we're 12-5 or better this year? I doubt anybody does.

We lost a #1 receiver, a Pro-Bowl O-lineman, and a solid #3 receiver and done nothing at all to replace them with equal or better talent.

We are clearly a much worse football team right now then the team that played the 49ers. We've lost a lot of talent and we have the exact same coaching staff in place.

There's a reason why the NFC East rotates winners every year.

Not for nothing but the Cowboys had McGovern higher than Hill in the 2019 draft. So, I would bet even if they never took Hill, the pick could of been McGovern so not much better results lol

Dallas is not gonna sweep the East this year, and there goes at least 3 victories. That makes for a almost .500 team at best. Will be a tough year. 9 or 10 victories tops. Will it win the East? who knows, but certainly won't bode will in the playoffs again.

We are clearly a worse football team right now? That's just your opinion. Opinion vary. But it's not rational to toss a whole season aside when we have 8 picks left, undrafted free agents to sign, and some June 1st money coming down the line. We still have a chance to get better if we choose the right guys.

26 years and counting.

They don't deserve anybody's blind belief. They need to earn it first. I'll stop being doom and gloom about this organization when I stop being right.

I am not a fan of the "no FA's no matter what" philosophy they have employed the last 10 years or so.....BUT....

Do they not get any credit for having a different philosophy and actually sticking to it? Sure, it isn't what anyone else is doing but sometimes that is what it takes to be a great team. Everyone else has been diving into FA for years with mixed results. Most teams don't draft nearly as well as Dallas has and HAVE to jump into FA hard.

I personally love the fact that we put so much emphasis on our draft and build the team this way. I would much rather do it this way than throwing big money at FA's and not having a clue in the Draft.

We have drafted a lot of studs over the recent years....
