An early post draft, pre-training camp depth chart has been released by a paid site. For the sake of time, I’m only going to post the offense for starters. That’s where the changes are mostly. Some of it is obvious; some of it is perplexing. Frankly, I would not be surprised if several positions see changes in the chart by September.

I got this from a paid site so I can’t link it, but here is the chart for the offense:

OFFENSE- 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team

QB- Dak Prescott. Cooper Rush, Will Grier
RB- Zeke Elliott. Tony Pollard, Ryan Nall
WR- Cedee Lamb, Noah Brown,
WR- Michael Gallup, TJ Vasher
WR- Jalen Tolbert, James Washington, Simi Fehoko
TE- Dalton Schultz, Jake Ferguson, Jeremy Sprinkles
LT- Tyron Smith, Josh Ball
LG-Tyler Smith, Connor McGovern
C- Tyler Biadsz
RG- Zack Martin, Matt Farniok
RT- Terrance Steele, Issac Alacron
K- Chris Naggar

COMMENTS:
  • I think some of this is a joke. Listing TJ Vasher as a backup? I saw the kid play his whole college career at Texas Tech and IMO, he’s not an NFL level receiver. We will see.
  • That WR group looks a little thin, especially when you realize Gallup may not be here until mid-October. I just don’t get the Noah Brown love this team has.
  • The team must not think much of Simi Fehoko.
  • Anyone confident in Josh Ball or Issac Alacron as backups?
  • It does not include any UFAs such as new K Jonathan Garribay
  • Who is Ryan Nall?
  • If we end up starting two rookies (Tyler Smith and Jake Tolbert) we will certainly go into the season with a less prepared and less experienced offense than last season.
  • This offense lost 17 years of starting NFL experience from last year.
Again, I think this chart is premature and I’m seriously doubtful it will stay this way come September.
Thoughts?

Scary, especially considering the Cowboys typical rash of injuries going into the preseason games.

I don't think the depth chart is that rigid. For example, it won't be Vasher replacing Gallup early in the season, it would probably be Washington or Brown.

Of course, there are going to be constant adjustments. I do believe the Cowboys will sign more veterans and one or two UDFA will [rpbab;y surprise.

I also think a few backups will surprise us.

Not to worry
We will be signing a bunch of free agents after the draft!

I like it.
WR will most likely be Lamb, Washington, and Tolbert to start the season
Noah Brown should be on the depth chart
Smith and Steele will be upgrades to the OL

Pretty sure Washington is a starter until Gallup return. What's a bit disappointing is little or no competition at a couple of spots. It shouldn't be that hard to find free agents to push Biadsz, Steele and even a low-cost WR.

Also, just me, but I'm replacing McGovern with a free agent vet that offers a little more flex. As a player who can only play RG, he has little or no value or at the very least, limited. Why are we holding on to him.....

If this didn't come from the Cowboys website then it's not official. But I do hope they give Tolbert and Ferguson as much playing as they can afford. I'd put WR Brandon Smith ahead of Vasher and Fehoko. And if you look at the backups to our tackles you'll kind of understand why I wanted tackle Abraham Lucas in the 2nd. Lucas in the 2nd and DE Isaiah Thomas from Oklahoma in the 5th, instead of RT Matt Waletzko.

Is there a link to this?
It’s from a paid site, so I couldn’t link it per the rules.

This early depth chart illustrates how thin we are at OL. And how often this organization pins its hopes on “best case” scenarios.

OL—I imagine Waletzko will enter the picture at some point, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they signed a vet to a one year deal.

WR—I see them also signing another one year vet deal.

One or two of the many “talented” UDFA’s may add depth. This is kinda like the “Way too early 2023 Draft” projections. Far from settled.

You WR people will never be happy. Pass catchers are stacked on this team. Gallup being out for a few games doesn't change that.

Dallas: where salary and draft status dictate pecking order. Competition seems as much a far fetched idea as drafting BPA...

I was surprised to see Vasher listed that high for depth. Also a little surprised to see Sprinkles ahead of McKeon.
No 2nd guy for C either. Though that will be a TC competition thing.

Nothing really to be concerned over here. But always interesting to see and see read opinions.

  • I think point 1 is splitting hairs, we're talking about the 6th WR and I don't think we have 6 receivers on the roster good enough to keep.
  • 100% agree with point 2, Brown does have use on special teams though.
  • Fehoko doesn't have it, to be honest, I don't even know why we have him on the 90 man roster
  • I would say that I am intrigued by Ball and Alarcon. Hard to be confident about something you haven't seen but there have been positive reports from those with access behind closed-door.
  • There you go, that's why Vasher is 6th WR
  • Nall is the guy we signed from the Bears, that was the one that stood out to me though because I'm pretty high on Dowdle
  • Agree with this, I will say that Dak being healthy trumps that and the next point though. We were good when Dak was healthy, we fell apart when he wasn't.
  • The other one I'm intrigued about is OC, is Farniok not challenging to start there.....Will Lindstrom be the only competition? I would have thought both Farniok and McGovern would be wanting to put their hat in the ring for OC.

You don't say!

 It's intended to be premature. If OTAs and training camp didn't result in some changes to this, they wouldn't be doing their job!
