He's not that good, the other guy is just that bad. He is your typical #2 who looks good in limited time and the minute he's the number 1 guy he either gets hurt or doesn't produce. Please don't sign him to an extension.

Look at C-MAC in Carolina, that is what happens when you use Pollard as an every down type of back. You get a guy that gets injuries that rob him what makes him good due to the constant pounding he would receives as #1 back.

If I were hc or oc, I would want to run at least 25 times a game regardless of score, and many games where I plan on running 30-35 times.
I dont think dallas has ever lost when running 30 times + in a game.

If your playing a team with real good run def, then you switch to throwing to the RB's, and passing more on the whole.
As for throwing to the RB's, I would look at what BB has done in past in NE, because they did a good job with that aspect for good while.

If you ran 30 times then you could give each 15 touches, or go 20-10, and maybe go with which one does the best in early part of game.

Okay...I think we agree....the staff does not run and effective run game. These two SHOULD be thunder and lightening...if we manage it right and give them some help at LoS.

I admit I do object to the notion that Tony can just take #1 spot. I am not saying he couldn't be a #1....just some caution about it.

Its a simplistic calculation based in stats. Hard to put up numbers on the bench 3/4 of most games.

You need more than one, and if Pollard can be signed for a reasonable price to continue as a complimentary RB (maybe with somewhat more use than in the past), then why not. It's not as if he's been overused and his body has taken a pounding.

I am a big Pollard fan. I prefer cheap over reasonable. He deserves a reasonable contract, but I would prefer they draft someone in later rounds on a cheap contract and run them into the ground, then get another.

Cheap is unproven though, and the saying "you get what you pay for" is worth remembering. Your scenario is base on the assumption the team is certain to get a player worth running into the ground in later rounds every few years, and that is miles from actually being a certainty. Mike Weber, Bo Scarborough, Darius Jackson, Joseph Randle …. that's the Cowboy's history of later round RB's. Tashard Choice in 2008 was the last Cowboy RB drafted after the 3rd round that was even close to being worth his salt, and he really wasn't good enough to "run into the ground"

And frankly the dollars Spotrac has attributed to Pollard's value actually is cheap for what he has shown. Under those terms we could get 3 years of Pollard for $4 million less than we are paying Zeke for 1 year. Even if it costs a few million more for those 3 years I think that's a pretty good deal.

3 million and change sounds right to me, and since they won't leave themselves need two backs headed into next draft, he will probably be here.

I wanted to draft one this year and next to avoid that, and they mentioned they looked at that but it didn't work out.

Similar to when Coopers contract pretty much reverted to two years when we drafted Lamb, Pollard basically got a second deal once we didn't get one in this past draft.

I like Malik Davis but I'd say he is third down back type like Dunbar.

Wouldnt have to give out 2nd contracts if mid round investments were being made every couple years.
Develop the RB3 before your RB first year contracts expire and you can save serious cap room.
Problem is we never feel the need to do so.
