In game prep, can dress so many per game. Would get them thru a game, with Faroinik then being dressed next game

You just pretty much answered your own question by saying... McGovern has been a bust at LG. They may want Farniok to be the starter or backup at LG.

LT-Smith
LG-Farniok
C-Badiasz
RG-Martin
RT-Steele

I'm OK with that lineup.

Not me. From C to LT is a nightmare. If we’re not adding anyone I’d prefer this:

LT-Martin
LG-Smith
C-Biadasz
RG-McGovern
RT-Steele

Farniok looked good out there, sometimes, playing guard.

I thought Empey looked good at times, too. But he got cut already.

I must be missing something. I can't figure out what.

C Will was benched last season in favor of McG but he failed, badly. We went back to C Will

I agree the coaching staff went back to C Will. It wasn't based on play though.

One of three things will happen with CWill.
Miami's O line really sucked so he got a starting spot just by being better than they were
He proves he's no better than he was here and Miami goes looking for other answers
He plays better and we are left to wonder if it's scheme or coaching or both.

Since I watched him for years, I lean toward option 2. Linemen with no power are bad options no matter the scheme or coaching.

If they are playing you in pre-season game 3 they are either trying to get you on film for trade purposes, getting you experience or just protecting the guys ahead of you.

Likely a mix of 2 and 3 here. McGovern is the last interior OL and they wanted to protect other guys.

Wanna hear an interesting nugget.........guess who's the Dolphin's starting center? You got it ........Connor Williams. Yep, the same Connor Williams that beat McG for the LG position. Now we hear McG is getting snaps at.......center (lol).

And to Top it off... media is reporting Conner Williams is not doing very good at all....the weak link on their o-line

It was being reported and seen that Conner McGovern was getting reps at center vs Seattle in the
last preseason game .

i wonder what is going out with that OL move rather than promise reserve backup Matt Farniok ?

McGovern has been a bust as an OG, but does his rep at center means he gets the call first before Farniok if Tyler Biadasz gets dinged or goes down ?

McGovern played the 1st series at OC.
- Farniok played the remainder of the 1st half reps at OC.
- Farniok later moved to RG with Lindstrom & Empey getting snaps at OC.

I don't think McGovern played any snaps at LG in the preseason.
- Tyler started the 1st two games at LG with McGovern at RG.

I think they always wanted McGovern to play OC but his shotgun snaps were an issue.
- The shotgun snaps looked OK in this game; although I only focused on it for a couple of plays.
- They started with Rush under center. Last season, all snaps that McGovern played at OC were with the QB under center.

IIRC, McGovern took some snaps at center last year as well. I think they want him to prepared in case of emergency, nothing more.

Most likely.

For whatever reason, they've never given McGovern a chance at C. I doubt they'd be starting in his final year with Biadasz entrenched as the starter and Farniok the presumptive backup.

It does seem to be a sign that Farniok might not make the gameday roster, and will only take over at C if Biadasz can't start a game.
McGovern played OC at the end of a couple of games last season.
- ALL snaps with McGovern at OC in 2021 were with the QB under center.

This preseason game vs the Seahawks is the 1st time I've seen McGovern shotgun snap the ball in the past 2 years.
  • McGovern's reverse Grip
    • In college McGovern used a reverse grip on the ball.
    • Pre-snap the front tip of the ball would point down instead of up.
    • At the point he snapped to a QB under center, his hand would be under the ball.
    • On shotgun snaps that meant he was basically underhand tossing the ball back to the QB.
      • i.e. No chance of a spiral.
      • It reminded me of an under hand "granny shot" in basketball.

Trying to either limit how many oline they carry active on game day or carry an extra tackle if he can back up both positions!

McGovern has not been a bust when he has started at OG and can play C. Cowboys should have kept Williams and tried him at his original position of LT. He played out of position at LG which is why he got bullied in the middle. But he had great feet for the LT position. McGovern started against a great Tampa Bay defense and a great Washington DT group.

McGovern was always an option at OG, C and RT as he played everything on the Penn St. line starting as a true freshman. Since Jimmy and Parcells was fired and ran off, The Arlington Jonesboys wasted talent and McGovern will go down in a long line of players that will win Super Bowls on other teams that are actually trying to win Super Bowls unlike the Arlington Jonesboys.

I think they are trying to find something he can do. They simply did not expect this fluke injury to happen to Tyron.

1 - Tyron was in the best shape he has been in.
2 - If it was me then I would not have him out there. He was in shape and ready. His next stop should have been walk through practice for the bucs. Let Tyler get the practice reps as LT.
3 - Tyron never makes it through a full season and they had Tyler to take over but nothing at guard. Thats poor management.

McGovern couldn’t beat Williams out for the guard job. We cut Williams but kept McGovern. Whether it was a money issue or not. Williams couldn’t stop the penalties and could not do the job. Hope that McGovern is better.

Is our center improved. I have not paid attention this preseason.

Did you watch the preseason games at all? McG didn't lose his LG position. He's been just fine there.

So he has improved. He couldn’t beat out Williams last year and Williams was not good.

Most guards and center should be interchangeable. I get that snapping a ball and then blocking is difficult for some, but at my HS where I coach our guards and centers are easily swappable.

If McG didn't beat out Williams then why is he starting at LG WK 1 and Williams is no longer on the roster? Hell yes, McG has improved, open your eyes!!
