Murray behind any of the other 31 offensive lines would gain around 1000 yards. I don't know why people care so much. Williams, Randle, and Dunbar can be successful with this offensive line. Murray had 4 years with the team and couldn't deliver on a steady basis.

If I were GM, Plan A would be wait and see what happens with Vikings Peterson. If they both want similar money ($4M/yr), I'm going with Peterson if it is not too much.

Plan B would be to go with Williams, Randle, and Dunbar and a FA pickup along with a draft pick/undrafted FA.

Plan C would be to sign Murray to 4 years $16M total which I believe is his market value.

I like AP, but no way do I take him over Murray if they're both sitting there with the same price tag.

The market I shop at sells 'apples' at the going rate, not apples priced on the market 3 years ago. Have you checked the price of oil lately? You still want to pay $100/barrel even though the price now is $42/barrel? Not me.

The RB market tanked the past several years and this year the RB market is flooded with supply. Teams are not willing to invest large sums of money into that position. The Return On Investment (ROI) for RBs is much less today. It is RB by committee and late(r) round picks are getting the job done.

I think we should start signing every underrated rookie QB and start trading off the Tony Romo's of the world for draft picks to fix the defense

I am very interested in what Demarco does.

He is a different kind of guy. I think he is the real deal . I dont think he likes to gamble.... I think he isnt a flashy guy...

He might assess the situation and just might stay.

Yes, let's go back to a time before the air was taken out of RB contracts to come up with the baseline we want to use. Then we'll pretend that's the low-end baseline we want to use. Sorry, no.

Note, the tweet says it was a 'team contract negotiator.' That doesn't mean it was a Cowboys source. This is just some guy who is in some way affiliated with the contract process in the league somewhere saying what he guesses Jerry and Co. will do. This is not what we're going to do.

I suspect we've already done what we're going to do, which is given Murray a buy-it-now price and allow him to take himself to auction. He may or may not give us a right of refusal on any legit offer he gets, and we'll very likely pass on it, anyway, because the market will be too kind to a RB on his second contract with a history of nagging injuries who racked up too many carries the year before.

I actually would expect Demarco to have about as dispassionate assessment of the worth of a RB as anybody in his position. He's a really smart dude, and he's especially mature. He's got a low offer from Dallas that may or may not represent market. He'll confirm that from the market and then make his decision. Factoring in how much he values the opportunity to win and to play on a good unit with a good OL. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him come back at a number much less than what the league would have guessed. I could even see him turning down slightly more money elsewhere (I believe him when he always says he just wants his team to win and he's ok). I don't think we could expect to push it too far, but a 10-15% variance to play for a winning team is probably reasonable (it all depends which teams offer him something).

That said, I'm so leary of paying a RB with this season's tread on his tires, I"m not sure what I actually want to have happen. I"m pretty much resigned to using a top 4 round pick to replace him and moving on. I really really don't want to see us going longer than 3 years or higher than $4.5M/per on his deal (though I'd guarantee a lot of that). I'd rather take a trade down in the first (assuming a top DL does not slip, and they don't slip), add another 3rd, and use that 3rd to finish off the committee of RBs for next year and beyond. Add two defenders with the two 2's and our original 3, and use the cap money we saved on Murray to bring in another impact defender in VFA.

If Jerry gets it done at a reasonable price I am down for it and I want Murray back. But we also have to assess what players is Dallas going to be in free agent market on defense.

As delusional as those who think they can afford to pay everybody and think there is no salary cap?

The fact is that there are a lot of options available to the Cowboys at running back. That has to be factored into any decisions.

There are multiple free agent options and several good candidates in the draft as well.

Add to that an equation including the league's leading rusher hitting free agency (which I can never remember happening before), and a running back market being lowered, not raised, and you have the makings of some very tricky negotiations.

And that equation has no absolute right or wrong answer, merely opinions on the best course of action.

I'd like to see Murray back, but not at some cap-strapping huge money deal, only to have this year's "Iron Man" resort back to the perpetually-nicked player he was before.

There really are a lot of factors to be considered on this one.

Then why is JJ starting high? I hope they let him walk tbh. If this is true, looks like JJ might be hinging his bets on an Aikman redux...does the D get any assets? Is Rod his new Romo in that he thinks he can go cheap (initially OL = Livings/Mack/Costa/Nagy, etc.) on D and allocate most towards the O? We had two kickers, wouldn't surprise me that we pay the one position you don't.
