Just started watching the pilot. Who the hell are some of these aliens? Also the acting is terrible right now, hope it picks up.

I love Trek but I think I can wait until the DVDs are realeased. (Which I hope they will do after the season) Cheaper than a monthly subscription and I’ll get a hard copy.

Finished watching ep. 1. Really liked it. Acting I thought, was pretty good. Intense scenes. Special effects were really good. The Klingon race is a bore, but oh well.

I thought only Vulcans could do a Vulcan nerve pinch.

She was taught at the Vulcan Science academy.
She was the little girl it was flashing back to and showing her answering questions and later talking to Sarek.
Seems like her parents were killed and the vulcans raised her or at the very least she spent her young years learning at the Vulcan science academy.

I think it would be safe to say she must have learned how to perform the Nerve Pinch there.

I loved the special effects.
The acting was good over all.

Initial reaction to the Klingons...

I can't see myself buying a card to watch the whole season week to week.
Maybe I will try and see if I can find it on Youtube, sometimes shows get put on there before being pulled.
Or maybe I will wait until the season is over, buy a CBS card just so I can binge watch it.

I just can't see myself buying enough cards to cover the whole season week to week when that would be the only show I would be interested in.

I already do cards for Netflix and the google play/youtube/radio thing.

I got all that, but I figured it was part of their ability to transfer energy through their hands that made the move unique to them. It never seemed like a purely physical act of just pinching someone. They use their hands to do Vulcan mind melds. Are we going to find out she can do those, too? I think it cheapens the move and lessens the uniqueness of the Vulcans.

Data has used it in TNG
ODO has used it in DS9
SevenofNine has used it in Voyager

The only Humans who have used it that I recall were Jean Luc Picard and Jonathan Archer...however when Archer did it, it was in the episode where he had the soul or energy of the old vulcan in him.

Or just download from a torrent site like me for free.

I would, (My buddy will have them all on Plex) but I want to support the franchise in hopes that Discovery won't be the last. I really thought that Enterprise was going to be the last given how they abruptly ended it after four seasons.

Have you heard how many episodes there are in this one?

Star Trek - unlike a good deal of shows these days, used to be around 20+ episodes per season.

I've read that the first season will only be 15 episodes. Hopefully that expands to the normal 24+ next season. I think it's off to a promising start. Hopefully it blossoms into a great series.

Anyone understand the ending of ep1, when the captain came back to the bridge, pulled out her phaser to arrest the 1st officer, only to see the Klingons appear on screen (1st officer warnings came true). But at the start of the 2nd episode, she comes to the bridge, pulls out her phaser to arrest her, and no alert his time by the Klingons. And she puts the 1st officer in confinement.

I watched both episodes and overall I like it. And will continue to watch entire season. However I don't like they changed the way the Klingons look.

I swear if they did not have the small klingon insignia or spoke in Klingon...I would have thought they were a completely different race of alien.

Also...even when the guy was speaking Klingon it felt like he was talk sooooo slow...Do all Klingons take forever to say something and take a Kirk break every couple of words now?

That is why they are always so angry and easy to get riled up. The slow language has exhausted their patience.

God I hope not.

This show is serialized. Not Episodic like previous Treks. No one gonna pull off a 24 episode serialized show. Hard enough to do 15 =p

Watched the first episode. Generally speaking I liked it. Not enough to subscribe to CBS All Access. Didn't care for the changes to the Klingon's.
