Maybe, maybe not. Jimmy would have had 2-3 more before rebuilding

Aside from the fact Jimmy never proved in his career that he could sustain winning over many years, other teams started raiding the Cowboys players, and the salary cap kicked in as well. Had he stayed that long he would have been in uncharted territory for his career, and would have been dealing with obstacles he hadn't anticipated.

There are lots of players I miss, over the years. Some aren't even Cowboys. But if you really want to know what I miss, I'll tell you. I miss the days of actually having two sides of the ball, each with the ability to actually win games. I miss Defenses being able to compete equally (or at least fairly) with opposing Offenses.

That's what I really miss. I know that's not what you asked Ranch but that's the truth of it, for me.

Roy OU Williams in his first years because no player in Cowboys history could light up ball carriers like that and get a rise out of the crowd and his teammates like that. He was a human wrecking ball.

Romo, no other Cowboys QB has ever played the position like that. The man threw more "hold your breath" passes than any other QB.

Favorite all time receiver is Alworth but he didn't play long enough to qualify so Bullet would be the choice there. He had another gear that was so obvious that it would shock defenders the first time they saw it. When he returned punts, ST coaches had to practice different angles for his tacklers or when they got there, Bullet would be long gone.

Tony Dorsett, the best pure RB to ever wear the Star and was a master at setting up blocks and acceleration.

And LA. In the 4Q of games that were being run out by our run offense, the sight of DB's trying to grab turf without it looking like they were doing just that when he would be at the second level. And I never blamed one of them. I think they all had a code for when he pulled and was coming...RHINO!!!!!

But my favorite Cowboy of all time, Roger, throwing jump passes over the middle is one of my most vivid memories of any Cowboys player. Nobody, I mean nobody was doing that as it was a lost art but I guess he thought if Landry is bringing back the shotgun, he could bring back the jump pass. And he was accurate with it because he was unorthodox and didn't have to have his feet planted.

There is just NO way this is complete, without someone, adding good ole Leon Lett!! Now he made some BONE headed plays, but man could he wreck an o-line! Me, I miss too tall Jones, Emmett, Troy, and Jimmy Johnson. Calvin Hill, Everson Walls... to many to really put down here. but I got to watch all of them play cowboy football...I'll toss in Tom Landry as an easter egg...

I couldn't agree more. I could handle these shootouts a lot better with a few 13-10 D games mixed in.

If they would give me any rule, I would bring back the bump n run and make it a level playing field for DB's. And along with that, I would eliminate the cheating with gloves for receivers. No records should stand if they used gloves except for warmth.

That’s not a given either as Jay Novecek said in the book “Boys Will Be Boys”, that they needed the change because his act was wearing thin.

Nino: Things changed with Barry Switzer. Jay Novacek said the team needed that change because Jimmy Johnson was wearing thin. But that wasn’t the best thing in terms of long-term success, was it? Would Jimmy Johnson have won with that group of players, or would he have made changes in order to keep his team hungry?

Jeff: Well, free agency is free agency and aging is aging, so one can only do so much. Do I think Jimmy could have pulled out one more Super Bowl in 1994? Probably. But the truth is, he had worn out his welcome, and players were sick and tired of his act. You can take screaming and screaming and screaming, but eventually you're going to bite back. Same with all the mind games Jimmy used—eventually, it's no longer a mystery, it's just hackneyed bull****. Jimmy hadn't 100 percent reached that point, but he was awfully close.
