Who do you miss?

With Jimmy it was all about the draft. His success rate in drafting was unbelieveable. His first SB team was the youngest and cheapest in the NFL. He could easily have adapted to the salary cap as his philosophy was to let go - preferably trade - older players with gas left in the tank and replace them with young hungry cheap draftees. This philosophy would work today.

I couldn't agree more. I could handle these shootouts a lot better with a few 13-10 D games mixed in.

If they would give me any rule, I would bring back the bump n run and make it a level playing field for DB's. And along with that, I would eliminate the cheating with gloves for receivers. No records should stand if they used gloves except for warmth.

No doubt about it Coach, both of those things really changed the game immensely. I wouldn't mind that but it's never gonna happen and that's unfortunate.

I don't miss Hollywood Henderson, Hollywood Deion Sanders or d-bag Hardy. Don't miss Jimmy either TBH. See him every single Sunday with his no fly away hair. I was pissed as much at him when he left as JJ. Super egos who couldn't coexist

I loved watching Randy White and Roger Staubach play and Jimmie Johnson coach, but I really loved watching Larry Allen maul defensive linemen! Who do you miss?

Dale Hellestrae. I don't know how much longer we can trust the Canadian who hides his French ancestry behind the initials L.P. What's that aboot?

Surprised Barber isn't getting more love. While short-lived, even with only 15 or less carries/game, the guy was must see TV. He was the original Beastmode IMO.

And clearly guys like Emmitt, Irvin and EWill should be popular choices...

There are lots of players I miss, over the years. Some aren't even Cowboys. But if you really want to know what I miss, I'll tell you. I miss the days of actually having two sides of the ball, each with the ability to actually win games. I miss Defenses being able to compete equally (or at least fairly) with opposing Offenses.

That's what I really miss. I know that's not what you asked Ranch but that's the truth of it, for me.
That's a great answer.

Love Jimmy but his success rate was not unbelievable. His Cowboy picks in the first three rounds included the unstoppable Rhondy Weston, Mike Middleton, James Richards, Curvin Richards, Stan Smagala, Godfrey Myles, Tom Myslinski, Derrick Lassic, etc. It was the quantity of draft picks from the Hershel Walker trade that made him look good. He had 35 draft picks between '91 and '92 alone, over half of them played less than 20 or so NFL games.

As for adapting during the salary cap, he tried that. His first round picks with the Dolphins were Daryl Gardener ('96), Yatil Green ('97), John Avery ('98), and J.J. Johnson ('99).... all of them combined for an incredible 175 total NFL games (with 102 of them being Gardner and his 19 career sacks, and 212 tackles in 8 years).

As for who I miss. There are many but I do miss watching Erik Williams. That was one bad bad man.

I always like the guys that were dominant on the field and entertaining off it.

Shouldn't be a surprise then that my favorite would be Michael Irvin.

A position by position list of the guys I liked the most....not necessarily the guys that were the best

QB - Romo
RB - Barber (just the brutal running style), Dorsett
FB - Moose
TE - Witten
T - E. Williams
G - N. Newton
C - Stepnoski
WR - Irvin

DE - Haley
DT - Lett
MLB - Lockhart
OLB - Ware
S - Waters
CB - Deion
