Moore has McVay traits

Not saying Moore will ever be Sean McVay or that I endorse Moore as OC over other candidates. But before the board freaks out over a potential hire of Moore as OC, consider this. Like MCVay, Moore was the son of a coach. His father is a very decorated 23 season high school coach who won 4 state championships. (Yes I know far different from NFL coach). Literally, Moore’s entire youth was spent on practice field and sidelines. Second, he is the winningest college QB. Ever. He sees the game through a QB’s eyes and he knows what it takes for a QB to win. In college, he played for an innovative offensive coach in Chris Peterson, who was not afraid to be very creative and call trick plays and use a lot of motion. This surely rubbed off on Moore. Third, more than any assistant coach, he knows Dak’s strengths and weaknesses. He’s been his teammate or position coach for Dak’s entire career. You cannot underestimate that relationship. Finally, he was about the same age as McVay when McVay got his head coaching job. Daniel Jeremiah tweeted today that NFL views Moore as a rising star capable of being a head coach soon, like McVay. So factor all this in...

then let him go be one somewhere else.

Well they said Garrett will be calling plays which means Moore will be running Garret’s offense, (that’s failed miserably already) or Garrett who doesn’t understand situational football will be calling Moore’s offense which he won’t understsnd. If Moore is OC I’d rather he call his own plays, he may not be that good of a QB coach but he may be a good OC.

Then let’s not make the same mistake Snyder did. Promote the man! Boy! Whatever.

The stuff about the shifts and volume of plays sounds like it’ll make people happy, anyway.

The more I think about Moore (sorry) I think its like the Amari Cooper trade or the selection of Zeke in the draft. My first reaction was that all of these were bad moves but I should just wait because the team knows tons more than the fans. And in both cases the team was right and I was wrong.

The Gruden comments about Moore have always stuck with me, which was why I think the pushback on him as a QB coach, of all things, has been pretty ignorant. OC is a huge job, though. Either he's really good, or this is Garrett's prove-it year and they don't want to bring in a ringer for him. I think it's more the latter than the former, probably.

That said, I don't think Linehan is a big loss. I thought initially he was a slightly better play caller than Garrett was. He seemed to have been in a rut the last two years, though. And I never really liked Linehan's personality. He didn't seem like a cool guy to work with. I don't think we lose all that much, and if Moore can contribute to the game plan with the motion and play design, great. We've got options to call plays. And maybe, yeah, he's pretty good and it and it works out. That would be pretty cool. Another find from Boise.

Exactly, good or bad the fans have no idea how Moore did as QB coach.

I have no idea if he could handle the OC job, but if the Cowboys do put him in that job they clearly think he can handle it. They have consistently had Coordinators with a great record under Garrett - Richard was obviously highly rated and Marinelli and Linehan had been top coordinators who got promoted (and failed) as Head Coaches.

If Moore gets the job its a big gamble, but it will clearly be because the team thinks he can do it.

I think that is exactly it, Linehan was always a guy who could win if he had a talented team but in the modern parity-ball era, you have to be creative. And Linehan had zero imagination recently, when Amari Cooper made the statement publicly about changing to a Go route because the call from Linehan was too predictable - you know all the other players were saying it privately.

Don't think you can rate Moore as a coach. A lot of people are confusing Moore the player with Moore the coach.

But the premise of intentionally failing for the express purpose of failing again the following year would make no sense, even to the most foolish of people.
Its called "Groupthink" and I have seen it a million times.

After I graduated from UT, I worked for a consulting firm and we went to different organizations that had problems and worked out solutions for them. You would be surprised how many organizations, we are talking multimillion dollar organizations, are scared to death of change and of the word "new".

Be it a new procedure, a new division, a new way of doing whatever, the groupthink of "we all know what is best and we have always done it this way" is pervasive. Most cant take a step back and accurately diagnose problems correctly because they are too involved in keeping the status quo.

Of course, they never had an answer for me when I asked them "if you have always done it this way and it has not worked, why do you want to keep doing it the same way?" Their first response was always, "well it has worked". My retort to that response was always priceless......I would say, "then why did your Board of Directors hire me if your procedure is working so well?".

I usually got crickets as a response.

If we aren't going to see a new HC or GM, sure hire Moore. Let him call plays and be the next fall guy.

Similar perceptions were thrown at Garrett and he proved critics wrong in how players would respond to him. Respect is earned. How Moore looks will likely play little part in many of the players' assessment of him. How he interacts, communicates and translates his offensive scheme with the players will decide their mutual relationship.

Clappy has proved the critics wrong?

2 Wildcard wins a decade later...…………...yeah, those critics sure were wrong about the "next Landry":lmao2:

LOL...…...that was funny. Garrett has proven all his detractors right on the money. Garrett has been a disaster in every way. Players think Garrett is a nice guy. That's about it.

Its like some posters live in an alternate reality where Garrett is winning playoff games year in and year out. I wonder what color the sky is in their world.

Everybody laughed at little Napoleon when he started school. Eventually he was crowned emperor. Maybe Moore is another mad genius. Just an idea.

I was also told many times by a large number of posters that Garrett would be the next Tom Landry.

I laughed in their faces and called them out on day 1...………almost all have left this board.

So when I hear things like "the next McVey" its like dejaVu:laugh:
