I really wanted a safety at 58

Also I know the perceived value may not line up, but with Jerry and SJ as forthcoming as they are can you imagine if they had a press conference after missing a guy and saying “we looked at a lot of mock drafts which led us to believe he’d be there later”

Immediately after the loss to the Rams i felt DT and OT were the biggest needs and I may not be overjoyed with the player, but they went after the need. So, gotta trust em and see what happens.

S was behind the other major need, but at this point they might as well leave S as is. Put X back at FS and hold open auditions for all the Ss for the SS position.

Yeah, Thornhill would've been pretty cool. Or Adderly, or Rapp.

Yup, and they did upgrade those positions. And we have flexibility at oline which we do need. Plus, we now have trade options in Collins and Looney.

But the only other position we’ve always clamored for is a big ol DT. And we got one. It stings because of the specific safeties that were there, especially guys we didn’t believe would be available but I’m warming up.

Eric Berry isn't signed yet. He's totally a Jerry signing.

As much as I liked Rapp... he (nor Thornhill) would ever impact the game like an explosive 3 tech will.

They made the right choice.

Really, people are upset because they had in their mind that Hill could be had in the 3rd round, so to them it just looks like the Hill pick kept the team from getting the safety they liked along with Hill in the third.

Truth is, I don’t think there is any chance Hill makes it to pick 90. It was, in all likelihood an either/or choice.

I think they made the smart choice. I’ve been wanting someone like Hill since switching back to a 43.

Agreed. My concern with Hill is more of his maturity being questioned. However, it sounds like he had issues with a new coach or something at UCF and has taken a respect to Marinelli. If that's the case, then we may well have a top DT. Thus, the INTs should come regardless of the safety.

The FO, HC and Marinelli do not agree with you. Draft Big before Small is their motto.

it will only truly sting 3-4yrs from now if Rapp or other S we passed on are PB players and ours is bust.. if Hill becomes a solid player for us and is the starter for years to come, then no one will complain..ie LVE..that paid dividends quickly..Jsmith took bit paid off we have had more success in drafts the last 5 yrs then the previous 10 id say I trust them to get the right guys, no team is 100% on picks, some bust for various reasons..

the sting is less all this griping you realize not only did we not have a 1 our other round picks are so late they are nearly in the other rounds.. Hill was few spots short of a 3rd rounder..it was not reach looking at where we got him what our needs were and really the media analyst say we picked him where he was projected by most..

Look at it this way, all the other teams passed on those same players 3 times, like us. Well, some passed more since they had more picks. Like the Eagles that need S's also, and everyone was so worried what the Eagles did all day, but yet they still passed.

If we get a s today in the 4th, it may even it all out.

I said S / DT or DT / S. We got one. I was not surprised they would take an OL in this draft, but just not that early.
Today I would like to see S and LB in the 4th.

I am bothered by the pick because this smells like Taco 2.0.

Where they see a talented kid that has maturity issues and Marinelli just assumes he will fix him.

Hopefully this pet project works out much better.

Safety isn't even as big a need as corner is IMO. In fact I would take another DEnd before safety. But I was going for an OT at 58.

We needed a big bodied DT to collapse the pocket...so hopefully, he can get the pocket moving to send the opposing QB scrambling into the arms of Dlaw and Quinn, and hopefully more mistakes that result in turnovers.
