To me, that's one of the unknowns that will be in question and answered as the season wears on. Much remains to be seen and proven in 2019.

We can realistically see the offense has been tweaked over time. Originally there were no empty backfields, no jet sweeps, we had no serious commitment to the running game, we didn’t split RBs wide, no QB keepers .... Garrett/Linnehan may not be the best at figuring out how and when to do things, but let’s at least not act as if Garrett has been closed off to any changes.

Beasley said the offense would be different last year too.

Now he’s in Buffalo and Linehan is who knows where.
Last time we switched playcallers the offense was different - went from pass heavy to run based. I think it’s fair to see if the current change will translate into something different as well.

True and despite all the criticisms Linehan has gotten, he was actually an improvement over what JG had to offer during his time at OC. At least, Garrett didn't suppress Linehan to the point of failing to do better than JG did (which isn't really saying too much.)

I really hope he is the answer we're looking for.

Sadly...I can already see teams looking to poach him as a head coach in 2020. Enjoy next season while he is here...He's gonna have teams on their heels all season. And you will be able to tell by how the LBers react. Defenses will try to flip flop sides...strong to weak...then one guy will stop and point...then all hell breaks loose because nobody on defense knows what their assignment is because everyone is confused...then hike...the ball is snapped. Don't know how many times @ BSU Kellen had teams looking @ each other...like what the hell happened? Was a thing of beauty. Funny thing is...you would think a team would have caught on what they were doing...took me 2 months to finally figure it out...but I did. Hopefully he will be able to bring that magic here...since he was the straw that stirred the drink.

On the one hand, Kellen should be pleased that Zeke expressed confidence in him.

On the other, Kellen maybe should be disturbed that a guy 6 years younger than him refers to him as a "kid."

Doesn't matter. He is what he is.

So, Linnehan was never a problem?

And, really, this “Garrett’s offense” thing is overblown. He hasn’t created something highly unusual or that is notably different than other teams have run, he’s just been a little more vanilla and the play calling has been a bit too predictable. Adding a few shifts and misdirections will make a lot of difference, as will less predictability.

People that say "Garrett's Offense" don't even know what it means.

They could hire Joe Montana as the OC and he could basically make it a West Coast offense using the "Garrett Playbook" by always calling the plays that have horizontal routes.

The Ghost of Al Davis could come in and make it a Raiders Offense by only calling the plays with go-routes.

It is the plays that are practiced the week of the game and then called by the OC that determine to focus of the offense.

Obviously new variations are always added but the OC is what determines the offense, not the playbook.

It's as-if fans think the Walah/Montana West Coast playbook had zero go routes in it or that Zone Blocking teams burn all the pages that have man blocking plays.

Moore can put in any play he wants using the same base playbook. If he wants to install a play where all receivers just run in a circle, he can do that on a Tuesday and call it on Sunday.

Moore can even draw up a play during the time while the Cowboys defense is on the field. He can have Frederick play WR, Zeke play QB and Tavon Austin block as a TE.

The playbook is not like evidence in a trial that has to be submitted to the court ahead of time. As long as the play is within the NFL rules (Frederick would have to report eligible), he can make it up at any time.
