So many people in here acting like Sean Lee isn't one of our top 3 LBers. Lots of other things you can cry about other than Lee being promised a starting spot.

when he's healthy, he's a good linebacker. unfortunately, since his college playing days he's been injured a lot. last year he was a shadow of his former self. as a big fan of sean lee, it was difficult to watch.

Makes too much sense.
Starting 11 could look like this.
LE Lawrence
1T Woods
3T Hill
RE Quinn
SAM Lee
Mike Smith
Will LVE
LCB Chido
FS Woods
SS Iloka
RCB B. Jones
Not bad. Should be a top 5 D no excuses

Did anyone address the fact that Sean Lee looked slow, was getting beat in coverage, and missing tackles?

I see a lot of "we have a top LB group" but you have that without Lee. What does this dude add physically? If he can't get to the tackle or make a tackle, what's the point?

Lee is the consumate professional. Suggesting that he won't earn it or that he just expects it is a lot of disrespect for the guy IMO.

Or maybe it’s reality based on his play last year. Should we bring Troy back based on reputation? Of course not. At some point everyone is done. I believe Lee is done based on his play last year.

They are going off of reputation alone. It’s hard to convince someone if they won’t really look at the facts.

This essentially means he'll barely be on the field, limiting him to a role as a two-down linebacker.

Shame for a guy who, at one point, was one of the better coverage LB's in the game but at least maybe he'll survive the season.

Sad that it took a promise to get them to do the obvious. Lee is better off in limited snaps. This could be the best backers we’ve ever had.

Jaylon is the more natural SAM. There was noise about moving him there last year. In nickel, take Lee out, but for the base Jaylon-Sam, LVE-MLB, Lee-WLB.

At least they're putting Lee on the field.

When the Cowboys go 2 LBs and 5 DBs, which they will a lot, Lee will be the one on the sidelines.

One "nickel" scheme should be Jaylon playing like an in the box SS, Lee and LVE playing traditional LB roles, Woods at FS, and 3 CBs. Comparing Jaylon to most in the box SS's, he's bigger, stronger, faster, more agile, and better in man coverage or run support.

As the SAM he wont make it past week 2. Save this post for when week 2 comes around. Just when I think this staff couldn't suck any more. They surprise me

He's still a lot better than some team's starters.
Right now, I'll go ahead and state that the Dallas trio is the best linebacker group that is put onto the carpet...

I don't have to mix and match with any cockamamie bunch of conditions before I acknowledge this fact. Marinelli will continually adjust to make them and his defensive line, top notched. I won't further declare that they have to be the Purple People Eaters or Iron Curtain to be valid for this up coming season...period.

I agree about those being their most natural positions, but I don't think it's smart to move everyone's else around to accommodate Sean Lee on the field.

Jaylon Smith is playing the middle, except when Sean Lee comes in. LVE is playing weakside, but move to the middle when Sean Lee comes in. I'd rather one guy adjust than three.

Rob: I don’t really see the Cowboys moving Smith or Vander Esch around much. Vander Esch hasn’t played SAM and Smith has an important communication role as the MIKE. I think Lee can play anywhere, honestly. Damien Wilson, now with the Chiefs, played less than 30 percent of the total defensive snaps at SAM last season. Perhaps the Cowboys think Lee can handle that workload just fine even though he won’t be covered up as much as he would be on the weak side.

You got it all wrong

LVE is the MIKE..... he has the frame for stack and shed and good in deep middle coverage

JSmith is the WILL .... he is best at pursue and in space....... he is sideline to sideline machine

SLee at the SAM will be fine..... he knows reads and positioning and will take on the extra impact with less reps..... the SAM only get 15-20 snaps in the base

Sigh.

Are you just trying to start some sort of argument?

We play a lot of nickle, the fact that you're a run-down/two-down defender doesn't mean you're on the field a lot.

But you know this, so why ask?
Because of your avatar, I can't help but to read your posts in the voice of The Count. Thanks for giving me a good chuckle!

A big part of the presence of Sean Lee, will be in the development of these two linebackers:

Name: Luke Gifford

Position: LB

College: Nebraska

Height/Weight: 6’3/243

Name: Justin Phillips

Position: LB

College: Oklahoma State

Height/Weight: 5’11/224

This is another example of the staff falling in love with a player based off of what he use to be able to do...not the reality of what he now is, which is a role player, NOT A STARTER.
