Were to start first?
T. Crawford might get suspended anywhere from 2 games to 4 games. Has a high cap figure and ia by no means worth the price tag. Period.
T. Hill is a rookie he gets credit for being loved by Marinelli but still he is a rookie.
M. Collins healthy well till he sees his first game then back to the IR.
Woods is good
Covington is good for Woods Back up.
Hyder is a rotational guy.
Wise and Walker are iffy if they make this team.
So you bring in McCoy on a three yr deal 30 million 15 this year 7.5 the following two.
You put Crawford on The june 1 cut list and save the cash.
I like Hyder as a DE better then a DT so his versatility should be good enough to stay

McCoy Hill
Woods Covington

Collins traded
Crawford Released
Wise and Walker TBD
You can't be taken seriously if you would cut TCrawford at 7m

He is way too good to cut ..... TB didn't feel the same way about McCoy

Too many kimonos and fancy cars and not enough double teams

Seriously?

7m with 2m bonus
And
8m next year
June first him and you save alot over all.

Crawford is the whipping boy of this team. He is not really good at anything but can do everything.

So if you think he is worth 7m for what i just described and you really dont think he will get suspended for atleats 2 to 4 games. Then you cant be taken seriously. JS

Agreed. I have no problem signing McCoy to a big, 1-year deal.

I just don't think Crawford is a good guy to release, because it leaves you really, really thin at DE.

Does it really?

LDE- D-Law/Charlton/Jelks
RDE-Quinn/Armstrong/Jackson

I think you could roll with that....

But then again..maybe the plan was to move Crawford back to DT all along...I'm not sure what McCoy has left anyway. 31yrs old...has never really been that dominate to begin with. Think he has been way overhyped.

It's a joke for anyone to try to compare Crawford to McCoy. And the only thing anyone trying to do it succeeds in doing is indicting their own credibility.

There is not a team in this league who would ever consider making that choice.

Loyalty to the Cowboys and their players is one thing, going full blind homer is quite another.

Per espn

DT Gerald McCoy has been informed by the Bucs of their plans to release him after nine seasons, first reported by Tampa Bay Times; confirmed by ESPN source. The team decided not to pay him the $13 million salary he was owed for 2019

He reached a mutual agreement to be released . He wants to play for a contender and not interested in another rebuild under coach arians .
McCoy is a big cowboys fan and a beast that can instantly upgrade the cowboys pass rush which was terrible last year and ranked 24th . Not to mention the first round pick from 2017 Taco .(..) is a bust and cannot even get a starting position .
Jerry could pull this deal off and go for a one year deal that can catapult the cowboys to the super bowl .

Signing 31 year old expensive free agents just isn't what this team does anymore..this is never happening

It’s a stupid policy.

There are always one or two older vets that can help a team that come on fair contracts. To ignore players because of age is just the Jones’ cutting off a way to immediately improve a team.

Want to know why this team hasn’t done crap in 20+ years? This is an example of why.

I'm curious to know exactly what this purported "age cutoff" thing is?

They're currently paying Crawford, and he'll turn 30 in November, Robert Quinn just turned 29, and Witten is 37, so what exactly is the "rule" here?

We like our “older” guys, no one else’s.

Because apparently, only our older guys can still play.

Apples/oranges, on player and contract. I'm not saying you have to like it, it's just not how they do business anymore

No, it clearly isn't. You want to try to make it "apples to oranges" because you didn't think it through before you typed it.

Again, reconcile paying a 37 year old TE. Or paying a lesser 29-year old defensive lineman, or trading for a 29 year old defensive end.

Your claim collapses under scrutiny.

How it is apples and oranges? They pulled a 37 year old out of retirement and paid him $5MM. They can't then claim they won't look at a guy like McCoy because he's too old. That makes zero sense.

And what makes this funnier is that at 30 years old McCoy was still pretty damn productive whereas Witten, at 37, probably won't sniff what he once was.

The only way this is apples to oranges is if one thinks they simply brought Witten back because he wanted to be back and they felt they had to sign him out of loyalty. But if that's the case, then that makes the front office look inept because they shouldnt be signing older players out of nostalgia and loyalty.

So we're hypocrites then?

It's really a confluence of multiple front office philosophies - too old, too much money (maybe), overrating our current depth chart at a position, McCoy plays DT which is Marinelli's world and Marinelli can turn crap into filet mignon so why bring in a talented guy like McCoy.

Despite having Lawrence last year, this team was still MIDDLE OF THE PACK in terms of sacks and QB pressures. A big reason for that was no consistent interior pressure. You bring in McCoy and you have a chance to have dominant interior pass rushing while having Lawrence and Quinn attacking from the edges. You roll out Lawrence, Quinn, McCoy and Hill or Collins on passing downs? That's an OL problem for sure.

It makes so much sense and is one move that could vault this defense into the Top 3 IMO.

Now if he wants something like 3 years, and $40MM, sure, walk away. But if he's willing to play for a one year type deal like Suh did last year, it's a no brainer. The rollover cap excuse doesn't fly because rollover money, for all intents and purposes, is really a one year boost to the cap and we have rarely used all our cap in recent years anyway.
