Here's a kid at made All-Pro his first year at CB after playing S first three years. Other words, he just scratching the surface. Great kid, hope we can find a way to keep him.

Byron Jones activated from Cowboys' PUP list, Dallas' shutdown cornerback set to return in Week 1
This is great news for the All-Pro cornerback, and puts him in position drive his value north in 2019

Byron Jones is headed back to the field for the Dallas Cowboys.

The 26-year-old has joined several of his teammates in having surgery to repair a nagging injury this offseason, with Jones having gone under the knife on March 27 to fix a hip ailment that appeared on the back end of the 2018 season. Traditional rest didn't heal it fully, hence the decision to move forward with the clean-up procedure. The timetable for recovery put him at a possible return for the start of training camp, assuming there were no setbacks between now and then. The more likely outcome was a more deliberate approach that held him out until Week 1 of the regular season, however, as opposed to risking him unnecessarily before then.

In the end, his return landed closer to the latter, with the Cowboys reportedly set to activate Jones from the physically unable to perform list on Monday -- head coach Jason Garrett announced. Jones has not missed a single game in his four-year NFLcareer, and this indicates he'll continue his streak in 2019.

The Cowboys are making moves that appear to suggest they do not value DB's and think the combination of McClay and Kris Richard can ferret out and train competent players through the draft them let them walk when payday comes.

What helps this mindset is having a front seven that can slobber knock a QB and get him out of rhythm and off his point of launch in the passing game. When they look over their shoulders for the next hit, they become far less accurate.

So this may be a good thing for the Cowboys as long as they can keep bringing in people who can play well.

Question - What has happened to Michael Jackson the DB?

I never understood the hoopla over him. Doesn't seem agile enough to me.

Jones has a renaissance year in 2018. But with how things are going, I feel DBs are going to become casualties to the cap. We're gonna let him go and try to get young DBs in, on the cheap.

I am concerned that the "Purge Squad" will come down with a case of the Hives because Jones is absolutely allergic to the ball....

Nice player, can cover well...is in the right position now....but a ball hawk he is not.
We haven't had a ball hawk since Deion. I'm happy with a shut down corner any day of the week. I hope they keep Jones, but if he plays as well as he did last year he might be the odd man out.

You must've forgot about Derek Ross in 2002. He was considered a rising player after starting 9 games and leading all rookies with 5 interceptions, which was also the most by a Cowboys rookie since Everson Walls registered 11 interceptions in 1981. He missed the final 2 games with a hip contusion. He also had 12 passes defensed (led the team) and 67 tackles (ninth on the team).

He had a bright future in front of him until he Aaron Hernandezed his way out of the NFL.

Hes not special at this point and I wouldn't offer him big deal unless he actually puts up some INTs..i dont think we drop off much to Lewis..i guess this is his prove it year because the Boyz have ton of big deals to finish..

Yep, I’d say Hamlin was hawking pretty well in his contract year, but other than not much.
I’m guessing Wilson and Woods > 5 INTs this year.

Zeke will be untradeable if we pay him anywhere near the 17 mil/season that he wants.
Im saying well trade him before he gets paid. Hes not sitting out the whole season. Hell be back to accrue a season

I don't think Jones is the type of player a team like this re-signs. If he continues to be very good and walks, they can get a comp pick out of it and keep drafting CBs.

He's very good in coverage, I like having him on the team. But if you look at a team like the Eagles they build their defensive success around having a great DL rotation and good safety play. If Woods/Wilson can get Heath off the field for good and give us better safety play, combined with a DL rotation that's looking real nice, the CBs become less important overall.
