Gotta figure out how to get INTs

Somebody posted on here a few years ago that they are coached to knock the ball down, not catch it. That’s another reason why Lewis doesn’t start, he catches the ball against their wishes...

:lmao:

Byron had a drop, I believe either Brown or Lewis had a drop last week. Heath had one bounce off his helmet lol

Heath's play just shows you our main problem. The ball is going straight at him and he is looking at the receiver. Someone else already mentioned the X Woods drop and the B jones play. They had plenty of opportunities to come up with an INT.

It is ok to play bend but don't break, but you need to get turnovers and tackles for a loss if you want to use this strategy.

The whole idea of moving to the Tampa 2 style D and the current derivative of it we're running was to generate interceptions. It's clearly not working.

I think we're going to see Richards make some changes this week vs Miami with some zone blitzes by the linebackers and safeties. We're limited in what we can do in coverage so I don't expect any changes there. I think he wants to get these guys used to taking the ball away and Miami could be a good place to start.

Our D is not aggressive. Dallas has played the Bend But Don't Break since 2013.

Marinelli does not want to give up the big play. Force teams into long drives. Force FGs.

Its very frustrating to watch.

Perhaps the db’s need to stand in front of the jugs machine, with their backs turned of course...

Heath could of at least one pick had he not swatted that perfectly thrown hail marry ball to him in week 1.

- as I understand it, we don't play the Tampa Cover 2, .. we don't play off WRs but more so place more emphasis on bump, press and physical play hands
on with this Seattle/Richard -style coverage scheme than the old Tampa version.
Regardless of scheme, imo, the biggest problem with lack of INTs are;
1) a lack of ball hawks
2) the lack of pass rush

- it's not just INTs, but you'd like to have guys that have a penchant for punch-stripping the ball for forced fumbles (ala Xavier vs Barkley in NYG game) or can
physically punished receivers that collisions gets ball popped out.

- Our starting CBs Jones and' Cheeto " do not have that INT knack, they play far more for the knockdown than driving on the ball for the INT, they are not ball hawks.
and a good number of team INTs tend to start with the CBs. I do believe Jordan has the best INT skills among our DBs but his role is so limited, he's not going to on field enough
to exploit those ball hawk skills. Brown hands comes/goes. he can get the INT or he can drop the INT.

- if we had rushers upfront that could constantly harass the QB into throwing faster than he wants, or hurrying him into blindly throwing into a passing lane so quickly and careless
that he doesn't see a coverage defender there, we probably could get better chances for INTs. - even with the safeties with Xavier/Heath... even with LVE and Lee,

- Xavier has a penchant for creating turnovers- he's came close to forcing two of them in the first two games.
- Heath has shown INT skills, but I don't think he's gonna get near as many in his role as more the in-the box SS vs his previous centerfield role in the past.

unfortunately our pass rush at this moment seems to be only Dlaw and that's it.
- Maliek will only flash you a couple of plays per game,
- Crawford is such an ill-fit at DE, (far better as nickel DT)
- Armstrong isn't there yet.
- Gregory's suspension was a killer. Has terrific first step get off, but who knows if he will ever play again.
- we wont get anything from Taco and very unlikely from Hill this year
- our best bet right now is what Quinn could possibly provide but what version will we be getting ?

Agree on most of this. Not a lot of Tampa 2. Dallas plays A LOT of 4-2-5 now. So there's no true mid LB to drop back into mid zone.

It's a true Bend But Dont Break defense though. Marinelli has perfected it. He's been at it since 2013.

A good place to start would be actually catching the ball when it is thrown right to you.

DLaw, RGreg and TCrawford had most of the sacks and QB press/hits last season.

another issue is, the LB we have surveying the middle in coverage, isn't a ball hawk either. Jaylon doesn't strike me as the type that reads/jumps passing lanes for INTs.
in fact, I'm still in question with his overall instincts, but that's just me.
where he does help is maybe within his physicality - he can lay the lumber so hard and force some pop-fumbles.

We used to see passing lanes INTs when Lee was in the middle, (one of the very best at that at the time) but that disappeared when he moved to weakside OLB though,
we'll likely see that from LVE - he just missed one vs Giants and he's such a huge, tall obstacle/with long arms and great instincts, to try to get the ball over
but 'm I having my doubt that we will see passing lanes INTs from Jaylon.

Have to look at the ball and catch it instead of looking at the end zone. Heath and Woods could have both had easy ones Sunday.

I think we need to lower our expectations on the defense.

Its a "Bend But Don't Break" defense. Always has been. Since 2013.

They don't blitz a lot and we rely on DLaw too much.

yes, as those were our best players among the DL that got nothing from Irvin, and Maliek being limited with his usual injuries among other issues,
and that was last year - who can we depend upon this year for those sacks/pressures ?
