Lotta highs and lows in a season, remember we were 3-5 last year and still won a playoff game. And even after the Amari Cooper trade we completely tanked in the Indy game. That was much worse showing than yesterday.

A slam dunk is still only two points as they say, its a marathon not a sprint, yatta yatta.

The real test is what happens next week vs the Eagles. If we win we are right back in it, if we play poorly and lose then all the whining this week is justified.

You would make a junky doctor bro. No offense but ouch.

That was kinda harsh about the patient dieing

My brother-in-law is a cancer doctor, and has patients who die every week. He cares, but he cannot internalize all those losses. It would destroy him and his family. His patients love him, because he helps extend their lives. But ultimately, they all die...as do we all.

The word fan itself came about as a shortened form of the word fanatic, meaning “marked by excessive enthusiasm and often intense uncritical devotion.”

This is not you OP so not sure what relevance your post/opinion has on the topic

Would you prefer supporter of the Cowboys?

supporter - a person who approves of and encourages someone or something.

Frankly, I take pride in no longer being a "fan" by the above definition. The Cowboys losing a game should not cost me sleep (it doesn't) or ruin my week (it won't).

Does that make you an "athletic supporter?" I'm having Porky's flashbacks...

I still worry about a loss, how the loss will affect their ratings, home field advantage, etc. Not sure I'll ever change, although I'm a little disappointed right now.

This is NOT an "I told you so thread." But the sad reality is that I'm not at all disappointed in the Cowboys season so far, because I've learned not to attach ANY emotions at all to whether they win or lose.

My fan relationship with the Cowboys has become very clinical. Like a doctor examining a patient, I try to make a correct diagnosis, and I DO hope for the best. But if the patient dies, I shrug, and move on. I don't have an emotional stake in the team's success or failure any more.

Remind me not to come to you with my illnesses.

I grew up with this team from the beginning and, admittedly, got spoiled a bit. But the decline of the Landry era changed my perspective.

When it comes to bashing the current Jerry/Garrett continuum, I’m as guilty as the next guy, and will always gladly point out the “no playoff advancement” drought — especially if it helps my argument.

But the bottom-line for me is: as a fan, I have no control over the team. I accept this. All I can do is take each game and each season as individual entities. Savor the good parts, choke down the bad...and carry on.

Its true though. Dr isn’t losing any sleep over his patient dying unless there’s negligence. That’s simply part of the business.

That's completely ridiculous. You must know some **** doctors is what I'm taking from your comments.

Nods
Amazing that it used to affect me this way.
I think just I decided "why should losing bother me more than it bothers the actual DALLAS COWBOYS"
So when they win their next Superbowl, I'll smile... maybe give a high five... just no more handsprings.

I care so little now I don't even mind if Garrett gets resigned. Watching how many years people can continue defending him has become more entertaining than the actual games.

And then you don't understand the game of football no emotion. That's what this game is pure emotion. Why bother watching it
For the same reason I like playing Chess, though I always thought spiking my opponents King would be a nice ending touch

I don't want to get into any specific political discussions, but the world itself has become a very interesting place to live. Great conflagrations are a hair-trigger away in many parts of the world, not just our own nation, and no one really knows what the outcomes will be, or what the world will look life in 15 years. Think about the difference in how the world looked in 1929 vs. 1945. 2019 reminds me of 1929 - and the world is about to change a lot. That is the context that makes spectator sports seem even more trivial.

For a guy like me, who has always enjoyed reading and studying history, I feel like I'm living through history-in-the-making right now. Very interesting times. Reality has become more interesting than escapism.
I still get charged up during the games but nowhere near the extent I used to. I used to hang on every report and bit of news coming out about the team leading up to game time. Now...meh.

Hear you about the changes happening around us making football seem somewhat trivial.

My Sundays may open up again if the Cowboys keep losing. Holding out hope for a trade/change or two to turn the season around.

Yesterday was the final straw for me. It’s taken a lot to reach this point, but for the first time since 1989 I could care less if the Cowboys win or lose for the rest of the season. The entire organization is an embarrassment.

I fully understand your analogy, Jumbo.
Here's a slight twist for those offended by it.

Let's say you're a health coach. Doctors recommend patients to you that need a dramatic
lifestyle change to fight obesity. You see these patients 3 days a week, 45 minutes a day.
You give them nutritional food plans, you study specific exercises for them,
but after months they haven't lost any weight.

You ask about their diet. They tell you they stop at McDonald's or Burger King every day after
their workout. Eventually, you just don't care anymore because they won't put in the work
except for 45 minutes, 3 times a week.

I agree that we become numb to sports as we get older.
Ah, to be young and dumb and hanging onto your favorite team's
success or failure as a barometer for your weekly attitude again... lol
