Can anyone here tell me exactly what does Jason Garrett do, and what would replacing him do to improve this team?

I'm not looking for your low IQ two word stupid *** answers that most of you like to give.

No .

Pre Parcells between 96 and 2002 the team was not well run at all. The coaching hires were moronic too say the least. That's on top of poor drafts, trades etc... After Parcells Jerry hires Garrett and then Phillips LOL Just another ridiculous decision. But I have no doubt a better coach can win here. Game management just flat out sucks. Unprepared and out coached on a regular basis. Jerry isn't doing that. More talent here than some teams and yet it's the same garbage. Hire crap coaches and there is no consistency. So he made a competent decision 4 out of the 23 years. we'll see where he goes in 2020, but Garretts a joke and Jerry either learned that over the past 13 seasons.. or the stupidity will just continue.

Jerry is quoted as saying he felt forced to hire Bill Parcells in order to give people hope and get the Death Star built. And giving up that much control almost killed him. As soon as he had the ink dry on the Death Star build he couldn't wait to see the rear end of Parcells and take back control.

So you are whistling into a dark room through a hole in the wall. Nobody in there is listening.

Doesn't mean you are wrong that a new HC might help. But it will never help enough as long as Jerry is large and in charge.

Just like Troy Aikman has been suggesting over the last couple of weeks.

-Most penalized team in the league
-Worst avg starting field position in the league
-Most dropped passes in the league
-Defense can't tackle very well
-Defense is having a very tough time with dual threat QBs
-Maher has a very difficult time with 35-50 yard field goals and has costed us at least 2 games
-Jones is the 34th ranked punter (there's 32 teams in the league folks)
-None of the players seem to engage with each other on the sideline anymore (last year they looked like they were having fun and a tight group... even though we started 3-5)

I could go on and on, but I'm just beyond frustrated. Also, Urban Meyer is not the answer in my opinion, that guy has quit on every team he's ever coached for... I don't want that guy near this franchise.

Also, this team needs major upgrades at DT and the Safety positions, or they'll never be more than an average or slightly above average team.
Everything you mentioned is coaching related.

It wasn't Awuzie who grabbed the receivers shirt, it was Woods, but I get the point and I agree with what you are saying. Its a dumb team that does dumb things and they can;t overcome their stupidity with raw talent.

I also agree that the Marinelli/Richard tandem isn't working. They need one guy with one scheme to be in charge.
I so agree with your thoughts.

All true, but he seems to be feeling the heat more than usual and he isn't getting any younger. We'll see where this coaching decision goes. It will speak volumes on how bad Jerry wants to win... or doesn't?

I think Garrett needs to go but a lot of you are drinking too much of the “Talent Kool Aid” and will be in for a rude awakening when we get a new coach and we have a lot of the same problems from the same players.

TBH I have no "Kool Aid," pie in the sky aspirations for a new coach. A new coach comes with new staff, new discipline, new schemes, (Hopefully) new players. And all of this takes time to gel.

If a new coach can do what Kyle Shanahan did in San Fran in 2 years that would be amazing. But 3 to 4 years is realistic to fix this mess as long as Jerry gives the coach the control he needs. It would make things go faster if Jerry checked his ego in the parking lot and actually hired a football GM, but one can only dream right?

I remember watching a 49er game that they lost with a late friend of mine and you could see the hustle and progress. I remember telling my friend that Shanahan would turn that team around in 3 years if the San Fran front office lets him do what he needed to do. Shanahan also had the support of John Lynch.

He did it in 2 years.

Blame the coaches all you want, but I think this team just has a low football IQ & all the talent in the world won't overcome that.

For example: last night the Cowboys committed 3 pentalities on 3rd down, one of them would've ended in a punt, one of them would've ended up in a 35-40 yard FG attempt... Both ended up being touchdowns. You can be the best coach in the world but you can't stop your $100m DE from jumping offsides and Awuzie from grabbing the WRs under shirt - I don't give a **** who's coaching this team, its THOSE kind of mistakes & Maher's FG misses that has cost us these close games ALL SEASON!!!!!!!!!

I'm telling you guys that you're wrong about Garrett, but we absolutely need a new defensive coordinator and scheme - the Marinelli/Richard thing isn't working. I don't care if we keep Garrett or not, but Marinelli/Richard/Maher better be gone or this team isn't going anywhere.

So what's the excuse for the Romo-era Cowboys? Did Romo, Witten, and DWare have low football IQ too?
Romo forgot more about football than JG will ever know.

Only problem with that is the same one we’ve had since the beginning...Jerry.

These players make too damn much money. Why should they care, if the checks cash? Furthermore, if they have that attitude, and it certainly appears so by the way they play and act, why in the heck should the average Joe fan give a crap? These guys make more for one lousy game, and I do mean lousy lately, than most of us do busting our tails in a year. Bunch of overpaid ungrateful crybaby prima donnas. I'm about sick of it.

Nice to see others think/feel the same way I do about our ownership/leadership, from a total DC fans perspective, and "no" we're not interested in what his "daddies money" son has to offer the org either:

Time for JJ to cash in on his 2+ billion dollar team, with huge margins based on his marketing/business skills, and give the team back to the fans! He's failed to succeed in 25 years of total control of this team (doing things his way), and the fans want the team back!

I agree about DT, but frankly, the biggest problems on this team are at C and LG ... they ain't nowhere near the PB quality they have been billed at for years - out interior OL can't hang

but you raise interesting points, particularly the last one

"None of the players seem to engage with each other on the sideline anymore (last year they looked like they were having fun and a tight group... even though we started 3-5)"

WHY?

If these were 10 year old kids I would agree with you, but these are grown *** men that aren't executing and making costly pentalities at the worst times. We'll see what happens when there is a coaching change, I guarantee it won't make a difference (unless we're making a change at defensive coordinator and he improves the scheme and tackling)
A change in coaching to me means blowing up this whole clown *** staff and allowing the new HC to bring in his own staff.
The only caveat to that would be if we could get Ron Rivera to become our DC. Then we bring in Lincoln Riley and make him the HC/OC.

Everything on your list is coaching related...

We have multiple issues on the team but can you believe that there are still people who have obsolved Garrett and the other coaches of any blame?

I went back in forth in the game day thread this week with someone who literally said our problems were nothing to do with coaching. It went back and forth until one of his replies was so petty I couldnt be bothered to continue.

I want this team to succeed and could we use better players? Of course. Every team wants as much talent as possible. How anyone watching this team could say the coaches are not part of the issue just amazes me. I'm glad there are enough people on this forum to at least acknowledge the obvious things like Garrett needs to go.

A good DT, K, and S, and a different HC and ST coach.

How much of that can be accomplished by 9/1/20?
