No it will be done with, in a couple years when people continue to get fired
lol its not the analytics guys getting fired. Its the old school, 3 yards and a could of dust, win TOP, win filed position, establish the run, more you run the better play action works(myth), guys losing their jobs.

I would be interested in knowing how/why you think McCarthy was either a "yes man" for the Packers or will be for the Cowboys?

The Packer GM (remember they have NO OWNER) Ted Thompson was literally medically incompetent the last several years of his time in Green Bay (and got let go after 2017).

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...ed-thompson-diagnosed-with-autonomic-disorder

Thompson presided over the deterioration of a once great roster by refusing to make any player trades or to sign any free agents (he signed fewer than any other NFL GM between 2011-2017).

The team President (who, unlike in Dallas, did not involve himself in the football as opposed to business side of the operations) was stunned to learn just how dysfunctional the football-side of the organization had become when he finally moved on from Thompson.

And guess who played good soldier and never uttered a negative word about his truly incompetent boss Ted Thompson? Michael John McCarthy.

And Cowboy fans wonder why Jerry hired this guy?

from an article Mike Lombardi posted on "The Athletic" (a subscription I greatly suggest any sports fan get)… It's a paid article so I can not share much but I found this very interesting...

"Packers General Manager Ted Thompson, the man who hired McCarthy, hated free agency; he only wanted to procure talent through the draft. He might look at some free agents, as long as their new contract did not affect the compensatory pool. Thompson only wanted draft picks or college free agents on his team, which meant the team was always youthful … which also meant the schemes couldn’t be too complicated. McCarthy never said a word; he never complained or leaked his disappointment in how the Packers’ front office worked. As the overall talent on the team decreased, and as some of their great skill players retired, the Packers’ offense slowly began to decline. McCarthy took the heat, he took the blame, never blinking or throwing anyone under the bus. His understanding of the rules of engagement in Packer Land had to impress the Jones family."
Sturm wrote similar things in his column.

Talked about how they went to the Super Bowl with a record number of players on IR lol.

Has there ever been any instances of a coach coming out and telling a GM/Owner they aren't doing their job right?

Obviously the NFL is a bit different than our business related world when it comes to relationships..but how would you feel it would work out, if you walked into your bosses office and said, "Hey man, you can't do your job right nor are you doing your job right. Fix it, now!"

That sounds absurd lol

And how do you know nothing was said in private?

And what benefit would there be in making a gripe like this public?

Yes it is absurd.

There's no doubt a whole lotta things said behind closed doors.

But in a corporate environment, especially in the NFL where the number of jobs is limited you would never as coach come out and say anything in public unless you did not want to work every again.

Fans seem to think (and I haven't the slightest clue why) that EVERYTHING that is discussed in the NFL is spilled to the fans...

I'm stunned that some fans think that's how the NFL (or corporate environment in general) works.

Because the team President came out and said so when he fired the GM?

And now, with new job in hand, it is spilling out about how McCarthy was supposedly so frustrated by Thompson's GM malpractice in order to make McCarthy appear blameless in the deterioration of the team.

Mike is a good and loyal lap dog and thus it is no wonder that Jerry fell for him so quickly.

About once a week, a meeting would start up and McCarthy was MIA. Players weren’t quite sure where he was while, for example, an assistant coach would run the team’s final prep on the Saturday before a game. Eventually, word leaked that McCarthy, the one calling plays on game day, was up in his office getting a massage during those meetings.

One player had the same massage therapist, and she let it slip that McCarthy would sneak her up a back stairway to his office while the rest of the team prepared for that week’s opponent.

“That was when guys were like, ‘What the heck?’” says one longtime Packer. “Everybody was like, ‘Really? Wow.’”

Rodgers in particular was not thrilled.

Didn't we have a guy of similar qualities in Garrett ... never buck the front office type?

JJ got what he was looking for early on.
Just because he didn’t publicly go after Packer managent doesn’t mean he didn’t fight for something different in private. Attacking your employer publically would be a terrible career decision for anyone.

He tried to bill himself as this quarterback master," the player says. "It was like, 'Buddy, I just want to let you know, Joe Montana did a lot more before he was in Kansas City.'"

McCarthy felt he was the one who created this monster of an offense. A personnel man adds: "That was McCarthy's big mistake. He wanted to be The Guy. He wanted to be The Reason. And he wasn't that good."

It didn't help that McCarthy also was rotating his assistants between positions annually. He wanted them to gain more experience, but as Grant points out, this didn't necessarily help the players. Many times, they felt as though they knew more about their position than their own coach.

The reason they are winning this year is because they spent on free agents on defense. Aaron Rodgers actually had a better year last year statically. Their offense was statically better last year. They are winning more games this year because the defense is much better. They went from being 22nd in scoring defense last year to 9th this year.

McCarthy tried to lose that game about 9 times on Sunday, and each time his defense or Rodgers bailed him out. You can tweak him for clock management or call him out for personnel decisions, but my biggest issue with McCarthy is a simple one: He doesn’t coach to win. He coaches not to lose.

You said coaching don't matter so why do you care? Dumb Dre is butt hurt his boy JG got dumped by the Jones.

I’ve read that before
Every team has the same cap but not the same revenue
The packers make about a quarter of what jerry makes a year so building through the draft is very important to them
But Thompson did take it too the extreme
Revenue has nothing to do with it. The salary cap and salary floor aren't that different, and the Packers aren't leaving lots of room under the cap. The cap is basically a fixed cost to the organization: they can spend it on draftees or free agents or whoever they decide.
