I don't believe for a second that lame duck Garrett had that kind of authority.
Jerry wasted the entire 2019 season by giving JG & Company one more chance to prove old Jerry right.

I think you're both wrong and right here.
Garrett could have made changes to his staff, but he had no idea of what to do there anyway. He's never had good connections to other coaches and has never made good decisions regarding assistants. He would have had no idea of who to bring in anyway. Think about it. Rob Ryan brought in Eberflus, Garrett didn't know him. Kiffin brought in Marinelli, and Garrett thought Old Man River was the bee's knees! And Marinelli recommended Richard, Garrett just said "Sure, OK"
But you're 100% right about Jerry ultimately wasting the opportunity that 2019 presented by giving Garrett that final, lame duck year.

The Legion of Boom was not a Richard creation. That's not to say he wasn't part of developing it, but the talent was accumulated before Richard was the DC, and really peaked with the Super Bowl win, which also was before Richard was DC. He did have a strong defense for a year or two as DC, but that was built on the players he inherited.
As a DB coach in Seattle, Richard was blessed with elite DBs to coach with Earl Thomas, Cam Chancellor and Richard Sherman, a couple of who could potentially end up in the HOF. I'm not saying he is a bad coach, just that it's pretty easy to look good when you have that kind of talent to work with.

He was red hot when he got to Dallas. Slowly, week by week it seems, he cooled off a little to the point where more wanted him gone than wanted him to stay. In the end, he is just became another name on McCarthy's hit list.

He had no bite.
He was only barking for other would-be hiring officers to see and hopefully witness his desire in the face of failure.
The whole kitchen needed reset before things were going to get better.
