What 3 of 4 conference finalists had in common in free agency

In offseason, KC, SF and GB knew they had strong offenses but knew they needed to be active in the FIRST WAVE of free agency on defense to put them over the top. KC signed Frank Clark, Tyrann Matthieu, Alex Okafor. SF signed Kwon Alexander (after hitting a home run with Nick Bosa in Draft). GB signed Preston Smith, Zadarius Smith, Adrian Amos... If Jerry truly believes this roster is ready for a deep playoff run, we need to learn a lesson and do the same. No more penny pinching this year in second wave. In first wave of free agency, sign a DT, NT, S, and resign Quinn.

I don’t think Jerry is going to wait for his staff to take a year to see what we don’t have on this team. I don’t see us signing 4 or 5 new guys out the gate. But there are definitely too many needs to be addressed only in the draft.

IMO, unlikely.

I expect new coach means you spend a year evaluating what you've got instead of making a big splash in free agency.
I mostly agree even though throwaway years are often offset with instant turnarounds in today's NFL. A reasonable amount of blame can be attributed to Jason Garrett but players on this team have consistently been sputtering on offense, defense and special teams. Given a chance, Mike McCarthy can come in, observe each player who cannot do their assigned jobs every game and excise them during the start of the 2021 offseason.

Except KC didn't sign Clark in the first wave of free agency. He was traded for over a month after free agency started.

.
We make our purchase in FA after 2 months has passed and right before training camp. That is when you get the K mart blue light specials.

Offense really only needs some tweaks. Bring in a receiving TE and mostly the offense is good to go. They led the league in yards this past season and was one of the best in converting 3rd downs. Now with McCarthy we should see the TDs go up, plus with Fassel I expect special teams to give better field position instead of being dead last. Defense is clearly the weak spot and mostly needs turnovers to be much better.

We’ll sign Dak and Cooper and the Jones’ will crow incessantly about how active that made us in free agency.

It's not like they don't have the money in FA this year.

Is it really penny pinching or is it more about the cap?
Right. I mean in years past when they had Cooper and Dak and Lawrence on cheap deals ok. But since then they’ve paid Jaylon, Collins, Zeke and Lawrence. It ain’t about penny pinching anymore it’s about trying to get all of this to fit under the salary cap now.

We will be active. But it won’t be tier 1 nor tier 17 like it used to be lol.

I see us coming away with 2-3 new starters. Look for guys like AJ Klein, Timmy Jernigan, Logan Ryan etc.

Guys you’re going to get at 6-10 million per year

And it was just a lateral move after they traded Dee Ford anyways.

There aren't two DTs and an S in the first wave of FA who are at all worth the investment to get them at that spot. I'd argue that the Packers investment wasn't either - they would have been much better off addressing the offensive side of the ball.

JJ wants to win now. McCarthy is chomping at the bit as well. I expect a splash signing or two on the defensive side of the ball to start the offseason off with a bang.

The good news about our roster right now is that it is absolutely set up for an overhaul with as many free agents as we have... we can truly reshape this team this year and turn things over aggressively.

Gonna be a fun year
