Philly could be eyeing Byron Jones

If Bryon hits the open market, he should been in high demand. A young, durable, press corner is very coveted around the league. Jones just isn't a great fit for our defense, a defense that has little playmakers to speak of. Bryon is a good player if used right, but not an elite starter which it will be paid to be. Buyer beware.

Other thing to remember is that he'd also be going home to a degree being from CT (probably only a 3-4 hour drive from where he grew up).

Jones strikes me as an astute guy that's probably going to follow the money regardless of location - he knows this is the big one and it's unlikely that future contracts will sniff this one. Strike while that iron is hot.

Tony Pauline is reporting that word down in Mobile is the Eagles are looking to revamp their CBs and Jones and Chris Harris are two names they are in on.

On one hand, I see the logic in us not getting into a bidding match for Jones. But on the other hand, having him in Philly would make them much better at an area of weakness.

I am generally curious to see what we do with Jones.
so? lets FT him, trade him to the highest bidder go draft another.. hes good ala a Carr but hes not elite nor great..so not sure why we worry about losing him, lest get something for him.. want to find out his worth? see who offers highs draft picks for him :))

I wont hold my breath :)

Yeah, in this case I wouldn't blame him a bit for taking the money. CB's are generally close to done around the age of 31, so it's time for him.

I do like him as a player, but no way do you pay the Jones's of the NFL big money. That's how you get into cap hades.

It's a bigger lose than you're suggesting. I get he's not getting turnovers, but he's among the best cover corners. We would be foolish not to try and work something out.At the very least I would tag him just so we at least get a return.

Would you prefer to pay a WR 18M to disappear at times?

I would rather sign Jones and replace Cooper in the 1st round. Jones is a more consistent player for about the same money and Cooper has been this since he entered the NFL, this isn't new.

We been hearing how good the Eagles secondary is for years, but yet they never seem to be all that good. But they also had a lot of injuries.
I really do not think Jones will help them all that much. He is decent, but he gets no picks, and this past season gave up more receptions than he did the year before. Now that is they way it seemed, I have not looked up any actual stats.

He will be a solid pick up, but I don't fear him. However maybe in the right scheme and coaching he can be that player. Which is why I would be ok if he stays here at the right price.

This is pretty absurd. The last two years he's a Top 10 CB in terms of completion percentage and QB rating. Yeah, he doesn't get interceptions but he's a great CB and better, by far, than anything they were trotting out last year. He would absolutely help them a lot.

Man G, some are so frivolous with their "just let Byron walk". I wonder if they actually watch the D play beyond the front 7? He is the most consistent player on the D.

Imagine if we had a defense that got to the QB? Whoa. The perception is mainly because his name isn't called. For good or bad. But we would then need to draft another CB and that takes away from the DL in my opinion, which is the greatest weakness on the team.

The only problem here is you lock yourself into taking WR @17, not knowing how good he's going to be or how long before he's the impact player we need.

Byron is a shutdown CB a great commodity in the NFL except here in the Cowboyzone....

He gone, unless he wants to give a hometown discount. And why would he do that? He’s set to absolutely clean up.

Pretty much.

We need him too. That’s what stinks about this but when you pay a QB big money this is what starts happening. We’re losing an elite corner for a mediocre QB.

I think it's very possible that Jones gets a contract in the $13M per year range which would likely put him around that #3 range. Jones is still young at 27 and I think he'll have his suitors.
Doubt that. Number starts at $15 unless his guarantees are ridiculous. $13m AAV would tie him for 10th.

They can easily keep both. And Amari, Collins and Quinn.

One of the more overrated players in recent memory. Product of being a “Dallas Cowboy”

We think this D is mediocre now, just wait until he's not back there. We seldom see the plays he prevents.

The O ranks 2nd and is loaded and the D is suspect, the real problem, and we think he's expendable?

And on that seldom seeing the plays prevented note, wouldn't it be nice if they'd show more of that on replays? Maybe showing why the first choice of the QB didn't happen might give more of us an appreciation for players that don't make plays, they prevent them.
