When you reach you overdraft by definition. That’s a losing proposition any way you slice it.
Absolutely. Using either BPA or Need as a standalone draft strategy is beyond foolish.

Aaron Rodgers fell way down in the draft that year and that was not anticipated. I’m talking about moving up for a top talent that free falls for some odd reason. That’s about the only reason I would move up.
He was mostly not considered a top talent at the time. Using hindsight doesn't make sense when looking for a draft strategy.

Yes. He was. That’s why he was invited and was in the green room.

1st round talent, but not top of the draft talent.

I don’t think that’s accurate. They thought he was going early (which is why he was invited in the first place). His free fall was so drastic they escorted him off to the side so that he wouldn’t be under the microscope until he was drafted.

Very early on, he was rated higher. As the draft got closer, he dropped and dropped. Most had Alex Smith rated higher.

I believe in BPA, but if you see a stud, one of the top 2 DTs, DE’s, etc., and he will walk in as a starter and make everyone on defense better because he’s a blue chip player and the drop off at a position of need is drastic, there’s nothing wrong with giving up a 2nd or 3rd round pick to go get him. Sometimes the 1 is better than 2.

.......moving up from 27th to 10th seemed to work out pretty good for Kansas City. They gave up a 1st and a 3rd for a REAL franchise Qb
If you trade up for an impact player and hit, you look like a genius. If you miss, you get fired. There have been a lot more misses than hits from teams moving up for a QB.

True, but staying safe and conservative breeds mediocrity and hasn’t worked in the last quarter Century

I would pay what future picks necessary to move and take LSU's highly reactive defensive end...and then a strong defensive tackle in round two.

I agree but to do this they will NEED to be aggressive in FA this year

we need 2 starting DTs, 1 (maybe 2) starting safeties and a difference making starter at TE. These players need to be difference makers not fillers
to do this, Cooper and Jones will walk and I’m fine with that
if we do this then we can let the board come to us
Don't be too sure about that. They do have $100 million cap space. That said, I see Coop staying for sure. Jones could be ify being his play progressed immensely which automatically raised his salary.

The problem is I dont think they will actually draft the best player. See Taco, Hill. They try to convince themselves on certain people.

We're really not in the position to take the true BPA, we have to draft the BPA at a position of need.
I think that's really what BPA comes down to anyway, at least in the early rounds. After all, if a team already has Pat Mahomes, and when their pick comes up in the 1st round the true BPA is a QB, they aren't going to draft a QB.

Later in the draft is probably different though. 5th through 7th round they are just looking for players who can play well at the NFL level, so they may take a player that doesn't play a position of need to increase the chances of getting a player who can play at that level.
