'06 Version' The BEST COWBOY DEFENSE of All Time?

No how, no way.

The 1970 team gave up 38 points in their last 7 games...one of those TD's being on a return...so the D actually gave up 31 in 7 games...an average of just over 4 points a game...and THREE of those games were playoff games. They went 21 quarters without giving up a TD.

That's just insane.

In 14 of 17 games that season, they only gave up one TD.

Hands down that was the best defense we ever put on the field.

The 1978 Cowboys defense allowed the third or fourth- least points at home in a season in NFL history. I think it's around 70.

Yeah, we're not going to touch that this year.

How many games where played that season? Hey, you are correct though.....

In the final analysis, I would have to say that the Defense of 1977, "Doomsday II", was the best all around defense the Cowboys have ever had. They had 53 sacks, (only two off the record), gave up the least amount of yds. & pts. of any Dallas team in history.

Nice analysis......and I agree that the 1977 team consisting of my all time favorite player RANDY 'THE MANSTER' WHITE has set the standard for our defenses to follow.

I just happen to believe this 06 bunch collectively have the TALENT/POTENTIAL to beat their standard.....

Their biggest hurdle? This 06 team does not have the offensive support of the 1977 offense to keep the pressure off the DEFENSE.

Which lies our main problem........

No disrepect to them, but that was the weak link of that defense and one Bradshaw-Stallworth-Swann unfortunately exploited in the Super Bowls.

kinda helps though when their WR can run over our CB and then see our guy get the flag for PI

Hey excellent posts all the way around.

I'll talk about the current Cowboys first.

Agree with the posters who said that it is way too early. Even thugh I love the youth, depth and quality of the secondary, linebackers and defensive ends, the NOSE TACKLE still remains a bit of a question mark to me. Thomas Johnson and Montavious Stanley MUST step up and give Ferguson a breather so he can remain fresh late in the game.

Also agree with the poster who mentioned the late-game meltdowns. I am especially watching for that.

However, what many of the great defenses had were great offensive lines that ate clock and kept the defense fresh. Philly in the late 80s / early 90s didn't have that. Where other teams like the Bears, Giants, and Commanders in the mid 80s, had fabulous offensive lines, they came away with rings as well. The Eagles didn't.

That wasn't always the case though. The Vikings and Rams had excellent defenses and offensive lines. Even though they made it to the Super Bowl, they ended up 0-5 combined in the big dance. Oakland, Miami, and Pittsburgh also had great defenses and offensive lines.

OK Zoners:

I told you guys in advance about this DEFENSE! Some agreed, but most thought I was CRAZY!

Later that day, John Madden came on line and said this Cowboy Defense was the best he has seen in pre-season.

Last night--YOU Zoners seen it again for two weeks in a row.........

Change your minds now and jump on this DEFENSE bandwagon ZONERS!

It will be our BEST ever with BeWare leading the way!
