It is always difficult to evaluate so early in these young careers of rookie draft picks. However, to this point, I like what I see.

Of course, the one I have the most promise in is the first rounder Anthony Spencer. That is the way it should be, and I think for the 28th overall pick, Dallas surely got themselves a player. It is really a wonderful luxury to have him backing up Ellis and Ware. Dallas hasn't had a pass rush this good in a long time.

I am not down on any of these players like I was with Jacob Rogers a few years back. It is good that Marten and Free get to slowly acclimate on the sideline to the pro game.

We fans have got to see Anderson and Folk this season. Apparently, Dallas found some role players in the latter rounds.

Stanback, Brown, and Ball are slowly coming along with promising futures to make a decent contribution to this franchise.

We fans will just have to stay patient and let these young players develop.

If you're going to use a middling draft pick on a placekicker, he better be good.

Nick Folk has been good. That Buffalo ending was just great. Good pick.

Anthony Spencer: Looks like a solid pick. Obviously not going to win any RDPOY awards, but it's not for a lack of performance when he's been given opportunities.

James Marten: Not so much. Seems to have been a bit of a dissapointment to me, and more importantly, to our coaching staff. Way too early to jump ship on this one though.

Isaiah Stanback: Looks pretty good in what little we've seen from him. Certainly better than his predecessor, Skylar Green. I think he is what he is, a project with a ton of upside. I think we'll see some production out of him next year.

Doug Free: Who knows? I do know everything I've heard about him has been positive, though. The coaches seem high on this one. Me likey.

Nick Folk: Duh. He's been terrific. Our best pick is a kicker. Go figure.

Deon Anderson: Was on his way to becoming our second most productive rookie this year. Looked pretty good catching passes out of the backfield, but needs some work blocking.

Courtney Brown: He was one of my "pet cats" from the draft. I'm glad he's still around. I always love the idea of adding more speed to our team, especially in the secondary. The coaches seem to have some faith in his abilities, or he would have been PS material, IMO. This move could mean we effectively went from "weak at safety" to "having some depth at safety" in one offseason.

Alan Ball: Not gonna lie...the dude scares me. He just doesn't look like he should be playing football. However, he seems to have a "natural ability" that can't be taught, per the reports that I've read. Besides, Spags loves him, he's going to be here for another year or so at the least.

So far, I'd say this draft class has been very successful. Jones needs to keep Ireland out of Parcells' cannoli grubbing mitts.

Anthony Spencer - Jury is still out for me, he looked solid in the little we've seen him, and since Ellis will probably be around for 2 or 3 more years, I don't think we'll see much of him. I just hope it doesn't turn into Bobby Carpenter Part 2.

James Marten - Don't think we've seen enough to make any judgments. Could still surprise, but even when we drafted him, people thought he was a little bit of a reach.

Isaiah Stanback - It would be nice to see him catch a few passes or at least play special teams. He's been dinged up a bit, but I still don't see him as being anything better than a 3rd receiver in this league, as all the QB to WR conversions I've seen recently have been failures, in spite of how athletic the player is, I'm hoping he turns into something.

Doug Free - I like him, and the coaches say good things about him. Could be our steal of this draft.

Nick Folk - Championship!

Deon Anderson - I love Deon, he's got more athletic ability than Oliver "Stone Hands" Hoyte, and just needs experience to become a better blocker. He plays reckless though, which probably got him on the team, but may be a problem if he becomes a starter.

Courtney Brown - No clue. Haven't seen him do anything to know what he does well. Coaches talk him up, but coaches talk up everybody.

Alan Ball - Same deal, may end up taking Nate Jones spot, whatever that means.

Overall I'd say we had a decent draft, we hit on at least 4 players (Spencer, Folk, Free, Anderson), and got some solid backups.

Spencer-improving nicely, will be a stud in years to come.

Marten-raw talent, jury still out-like most OTs, takes time to develop.

Stanback-like how the coaching staff is letting him learn FIRST-maybe our future Welker?

Free-let him sit on the bench a year or 2 FIRST.

Folk-YES! FINALLY a LONG-term kicker!

Anderson-sucks that he got injured, but I think we have a long-term FB.

Brown-we'll get to see him tonight. Hopefully, we'll make the most of his opportunity. I think he'll be fine in years to come.

Ball-a POSSIBLE steal at CB-if this is the case, then we should use our 2 #1's on an RB instead.

Overall - B+

Spencer, Anderson, and Folk are the only guys that I (or really anyone) has a good read on so far.

Spencer started slow as the starting LB, but has obviously been really good coming off the bench for Ellis. He's at the very least looking much better than Carpenter.

Anderson I was really excited about before he got injured. He's about 10x the FB that Oliver "Please don't throw me the ball" Hoyte is.

Folk is obviously a solid kicker, but that's all he is. Was he worth the draft pick? I guess, not exactly a steal, but whatever. I know guys will get up and down on kickers like nothing else... clutch ability in Kickers is way overrated and a stretch of a few games with missed crucial kicks is inevitable, and I can't wait for everyone to be saying "why can't we get a real kicker?" after that. But yea, he obviously has a good leg, and that's all I can ask out of a kicker.

Spencer: Loved the pick. May never be great, but he'll be very solid for a long time. Makes plays the few times he's gotten in. Seems to always finish when he gets his hands on the QB. Has put some big hits on QBs that don't show up in the stat book. Intelligent kid who's easy to root for.

Marten: My pick for biggest disappointment. Don't think he showed much in camp. We might wish we'd taken a corner here.

Stanback: Really like him. Great talent plus great character almost always equals a very good player. I prefer taking high-upside WRs like this later in the draft to using high picks on them.

Free: Coaches seem to love him. It'll be interesting to see how much bulk he can gain by next year. If he can take over for Flo at LT, it almost makes the whole draft.

Deon: Kind of meh on the pick, but what do you expect down here. At least he's good on special teams. Torn rotator cuff isn't that serious an injury, so there's no telling how strong he'll be by next season.

Folk: A+ pick. The guy is money.

Brown: Love the move to safety. Glad we gave up on the retreads and SS types at FS, and put a real athlete back there. Smart guy.

Ball: My sleeper favorite. I liked what he did in preseason. Not the fastest, but scrappy and will tackle. Yes, he's skinny, but good height and long arms are a big plus. Might be a Larry Brown type for us. I just have that good gut feeling about him like I did about McQuistan.

Well, there is one thing for sure.

Dallas has had worse drafts than this over the past decade.

This may not be the 2005 draft, but it sure isn't 2000 & 2001.

Even though he wasn't a draft pick I hope we don't regret that we didn't keep Matt Moore. I thought he showed enough to keep him on the roster as a 3rd QB.

I agree, but people are talking about him like we don't already have a QB. What're you gonna do with two starting QB's? He'd end up on the bench anyway, and if he came in, that would mean Romo is either tanking or injured.

I think Spencer, Free, Stanback, and Folk eventually become starters. Brown, Ball, Marten, and Anderson might stick around for awhile as backups. Not a bad draft at all.

Anthony Spencer...I liked what I saw of him prior to Ellis coming back. I think he will be a great starter here in the near future.

James Marten...Didn't see enough of him to have an opinion. Like his potential. Wouldn't object to OL being a Draft focus.

Isaiah
Stanback...Like everything I read or hear about him. Think he will be a solid player here in the future.

Doug Free
...Virtually the same thing I posted about Marten can be said here. Liked him a little better in pre-season than I did Marten.

Nick Folk
...Has been all I ever could have asked for and more.

Deon Anderson...Was by far my favorite rookie. Very sad he got hurt. Think he was a steal and will be our FB for years to come.

Courtney Brown
...I've seen very little of him except for some Special Teams work, but I have liked what I saw. He was one of my sleepers way before the Draft. I have high hopes.

Alan Ball
...I wasn't excited about this pick given his low weight. I did admire that he was a 4 year starter at a Big 10 school though. Didn't see anything that is evidence of potential success or failure so I will simply say, the fact the staff protected him is a good sign.

I think he would have been a great backup and you never know what we might have got for him in a trade further down the road.

ANyone downgrading the need for a kicker obviously never watched the BOys in 2005. We have been very lucky in the respect that this year the O has pretty much negated the need- but Folk has made some pretty important kicks.

This looks fun...

I'll try.

Anthony Spencer - C. Not as tall as Ellis or Ware. But has some speed.
James Marten -
Incomplete.
Isaiah Stanback - Incomplete. Probable bust.
Doug Free - Incomplete.
Nick Folk - A+ Won the Buffalo game. We finally have a big time kicker.
Deon Anderson - C Injury robbed him of a good first season.
Courtney Brown - Incomplete.
Alan Ball - Incomplete.

Incomplete but yet a probable bust?

What the hell kind of assessment is that? You don't have a clue about his potential or limited performance to say "incomplete" and yet, probable bust?

This is why you are treated as a clown on here.

Anthony Spencer - Performed well while starting. Eventually, he'll be our starter.

James Marten - Haven't seen enough of him.

Isaiah Stanback - Have not seen enough of him

Doug Free - Have not seen enough of him

Nick Folk - A great pick, far exceeded my expectation

Deon Anderson - Another great pick, performed well prior to injury

Courtney Brown - Have not seen enough of him

Alan Ball - Have not seen enough of him. His size (weight) is bit concerning, however, if he could make plays, his weight doesn't matter.

Well I don't know if he'd make a great backup, I'm sort of in favor of veteran backups myself. No one knew or knows what Moore is capable of, so I'm not sure I see it.

Maybe he could have been trade fodder, sure, but he wouldn't have earned any value sitting on the bench behind Romo anyway, the only reason he's even on the map now is because he's playing due to injuries on the Panthers, that wouldn't be the case here.

How many people would have traded for Derek Anderson before this season from the Browns? No one.

No need to get emotional about it.

I'll try to clarify this for you.

When you are a top 100 draftee..and you can't make the active list...

If this continues into next season....

Then you can say he is a bust...not a probable bust.

The Cowboys are going to need to draft a WR next season, even though they already drafted Stanback.
