1. I think Stephen is going to make everyone miss Jerry quite badly. Then again goofies are blaming Jerry for current cap mgmt so they may blame him long after he is passed on as well.

2. I think Stephen is new money and is consumed with "NOT losing" his Daddy's money while Jerry knows you gotta spend money to make money. The biggest and best costs a lot but it also makes the most.

3. I think I saw the Amari Cooper cut coming. Rise of CeeDee, lack of restructure last year, team's ability ot actually draft capable WRs.

4. I think cutting Tank is probably smart cap mgmt but I also think I'd rather rush into traffic than take that risk. This team is umm questionable at drafting or signing DL.

5. I think I'd get Brent Urban and Jayron Kearse back ASAP.

6. I think the fan base is pretty far behind on where Dalton Schultz ranks amongst his peers. Hint: It isn't in the 20s.

7. I think this draft class may be the most important Dallas has had since Zeke/Dak. You badly need those cheaper bodies to be good players to lift this team and survive cheapskate Stephen.

8. I think I trust Will McClay but boy are we asking a lot of that dude yearly.

9. I think the easiest perso0nnel move to make is cutting Greg Z. Btu they loves Bones Fassel and he loves Greg....

10. I think I'd rather make out with Putin than be in a dispute with NFL ownership because man do those dudes lord over and wield power like mob bosses or what?

Jerry is responsible for some of the contracts that are hurting our cap, for example the Elliott contract. When Jerry steps aside or dies, there will be attempts to re-write history and make Jerry out to be the saint and Stephen as the bad guy. That would be a mistake.

Note, this isn't a defense of Stephen. Frankly, I've given up hope with him and Jerry and am counting down the days until the grandson takes over.

Do you think we could get any trade offers for Tank and Coop? I'd like to get something if they are not going to be here next year anyhow.

Jerry is the only NFL owner or GM who would employ Stephen in such a role, so it really is on him.

He could, theoretically, replace Stephen tomorrow. Of course, we know that's not going to happen.

UGHHHHH @jterrell remember at the time of the Zeke extension you said not only that Zeke's contract wasn't an albatross, but it was actually a good contract "if you knew anything about contracts"?
I remember it like it was yesterday.

Sucks that the contract will single-handily make the team significantly worse this next season.

That's OK Jerry made me miss Jimmy. The Bengals seem to have a better FO than us.

2. I think Stephen is new money and is consumed with "NOT losing" his Daddy's money while Jerry knows you gotta spend money to make money. The biggest and best costs a lot but it also makes the most.

I don't think they're as "Spend what it takes to win" as they say.

3. I think I saw the Amari Cooper cut coming. Rise of CeeDee, lack of restructure last year, team's ability ot actually draft capable WRs.

I don't mind getting rid of Cooper but use that money to get better. With them that's quesionable.

4. I think cutting Tank is probably smart cap mgmt but I also think I'd rather rush into traffic than take that risk. This team is umm questionable at drafting or signing DL.

Tank has turned out to be an awful draft pick with 2 good years out of 8

5. I think I'd get Brent Urban and Jayron Kearse back ASAP.

Five star comment

6. I think the fan base is pretty far behind on where Dalton Schultz ranks amongst his peers. Hint: It isn't in the 20s.

Draft Cade Otton who unlike Schultz actually has a chance to become a good blocker as well as receiver and move Simi to TE.

7. I think this draft class may be the most important Dallas has had since Zeke/Dak. You badly need those cheaper bodies to be good players to lift this team and survive cheapskate Stephen.

I say that every year.

8. I think I trust Will McClay but boy are we asking a lot of that dude yearly.

His round one picks aren't turning out too well but he's better than Larry Lacewell any day of the week

9. I think the easiest perso0nnel move to make is cutting Greg Z. Btu they loves Bones Fassel and he loves Greg....

The son does nothing without approval from the father. All you need to do is watch the body language in the war room when there was a trade on the table and the son wanted to take it, along with others, and Booger just nixed that and said take McGovern. Discussion over.

What has anyone here seen in Booger's behavior to make them think he would not be involved in everything, jocks to socks, that he has successfully made himself the face of?

If you think because he's approaching 80 he's going to take a backseat to anyone, including family, you do not know ego driven old men.

And he has just this past year to cement that decision when he was telling a reporter that Parsons was always the guy up to the point of inviting him to look at the draft board while his son was on the radio refuting that saying the CB's were always the target. Think they didn't have words about that? He stepped on Booger's most prized possession, his ego.

Parsons is now like the Prescott pick. Yeah, but they would have taken Lynch or Cook before him.

When Booger mentioned the Cowboys being relevant, he wasn't talking about the team, he was talking about himself.

Booger isn't just the President/owner/GM of the Cowboys, he is the King. And all bow to the King.

When I think of needs, one of the LAST things that crosses my mind is getting Brent Urban back ASAP.

Other than than.......I enjoyed your writeup jterrell!

Only if those players cooperated to move money around and I see no reason they'd do that versus taking free agency and controlling their own destiny fully.
Bummer but probably lose both for nothing at all but cap space.

Dallas was far better versus the run with Urban than once he was injured. He played a game or so injured where he was awful but prior to that he was a solid run stuff option.
Would have helped a lot versus SF imo.
And if you cut DLaw you better shore up that run stuff game.

Shultz can't block, should not have tagged him.

How do you rank him as a blocking TE among all starters?
Do you have any grade on him at all?

League-wide there has been a move to lighter, receiving TEs, Schultz was rated the 6th best TE by PFF which is flawed but better than user romofan99 saying he sucks.
He is ranked by most services as a top 3 TE available in Free Agency this year.
The one guy often ranked above him Gesicki was also tagged.

My take is this:
Dallas wasn't wrong to tag Schultz. He is valued at 4 years and about 50M with half GTD. I am not in on that.
But one year 11m with no future hit? Count me in.
Dallas then gets two free agent classes and two drafts to shoot for an upgrade or at lateral move for cheap.

I get it sucks to eat 11M and fans are not wrong to hate losing actual talent in Coop/Tank but this move is pretty solid. A 25-year-old who has been healthy and able is not as easily replaceable as fans portend.

Hard to believe Stephen could do any worse than what Jerry has done since Jimmy left.

He might be more CAP conscience but I am hoping he won't be such a negative influence on the culture of the team.

Def a possibility that is so.
But it sure doesn't feel like it to me.
It feels like it will an iron fist over the cashflow and that is terrible for a culture when the only guys making insane profits are the owner.

I tend to agree with not paying guys 30 or over and tend to agree that outside free agency should be surgical not scattershooting.
But the woe is me, cap hell, yada yada talk is just brutally draining.
And the lack of early commitment to Dak cost us at least 10M per year on his precious cap table.

Thanks for your comments.
I don't have a grade on him, but there seems to be a consensus that he really hurts our run game with his lack of blocking ability.
In my mind if you are paying top dollar for a position, the player should have the complete skill set for the position, IMHO.

Totally get where you are coming from which is why I am happier with a 1-year tag than long term deal.
But there may only be 3-4 TE's in the league who can both receive and block effectively.
You either split the duties between two guys or got lucky.

Schultz actually rated 15th in run blocking amongst all TE by PFF.
Was lower at 26th in pass blocking.
But was also 7th in receiving and 6th overall.
Thats a far better run blocking grade than Travis Kelce got. Gronk was awful in run blocking with a 51.
And people love Darren Waller but he was a 45 in run blocking. That's basically not even trying, lol.
George Kittle, Mark Andrews are only two guys who really rated better in all areas than Schultz.

Mike Gesecki who was also franchised rated as off the charts bad in blocking.

PFF is just one source but its the only source I have.

Consensus seems to be that Schultz was a sure-fire top 15 TE last year.

Normally I'd have been for releasing him to free agency but early reports were it was a very light draft class at TE and the FA pool was pretty awful.
We've now seen a lot of high salary re-ups all int he 10+M range and 2 guys tagged.
To me this says at least Dallas is consistent with the rest of the league.

Good points, thanks for making me feel better about the tag!:)
