10 things I think I think broke GM edition

Totally get where you are coming from which is why I am happier with a 1-year tag than long term deal.
But there may only be 3-4 TE's in the league who can both receive and block effectively.
You either split the duties between two guys or got lucky.

Schultz actually rated 15th in run blocking amongst all TE by PFF.
Was lower at 26th in pass blocking.
But was also 7th in receiving and 6th overall.
Thats a far better run blocking grade than Travis Kelce got. Gronk was awful in run blocking with a 51.
And people love Darren Waller but he was a 45 in run blocking. That's basically not even trying, lol.
George Kittle, Mark Andrews are only two guys who really rated better in all areas than Schultz.

Mike Gesecki who was also franchised rated as off the charts bad in blocking.

PFF is just one source but its the only source I have.

Consensus seems to be that Schultz was a sure-fire top 15 TE last year.

Normally I'd have been for releasing him to free agency but early reports were it was a very light draft class at TE and the FA pool was pretty awful.
We've now seen a lot of high salary re-ups all int he 10+M range and 2 guys tagged.
To me this says at least Dallas is consistent with the rest of the league.
Dalton again will have solid #’s because he’s Dak’s security blanket.Lots of 5-10 yd passes because Dak just doesn’t want to take many chances downfield unless wiiiide open for fear of his inaccuracy & turnovers.W/ the exception of 4 or 5 players, TE’s are a dime a dozen. Most TE’s can have similar #’s as Dalton playing in this offense w/ Dak.

Dalton Schultz had the same number of targets as Amari Cooper.

Result was the same number of TDs and only about 55 less receiving yards.

The more you know....

1. I think Stephen is going to make everyone miss Jerry quite badly. Then again goofies are blaming Jerry for current cap mgmt so they may blame him long after he is passed on as well.

2. I think Stephen is new money and is consumed with "NOT losing" his Daddy's money while Jerry knows you gotta spend money to make money. The biggest and best costs a lot but it also makes the most.

3. I think I saw the Amari Cooper cut coming. Rise of CeeDee, lack of restructure last year, team's ability ot actually draft capable WRs.

4. I think cutting Tank is probably smart cap mgmt but I also think I'd rather rush into traffic than take that risk. This team is umm questionable at drafting or signing DL.

5. I think I'd get Brent Urban and Jayron Kearse back ASAP.

6. I think the fan base is pretty far behind on where Dalton Schultz ranks amongst his peers. Hint: It isn't in the 20s.

7. I think this draft class may be the most important Dallas has had since Zeke/Dak. You badly need those cheaper bodies to be good players to lift this team and survive cheapskate Stephen.

8. I think I trust Will McClay but boy are we asking a lot of that dude yearly.

9. I think the easiest perso0nnel move to make is cutting Greg Z. Btu they loves Bones Fassel and he loves Greg....

10. I think I'd rather make out with Putin than be in a dispute with NFL ownership because man do those dudes lord over and wield power like mob bosses or what?

Since Stephen has stepped more into the fold the Cowboys have been more penny pinchers mostly content only paying their homegrown talent. I think you're right that we will miss Jerry being willing to gamble sometimes making a splash move.

People always infer they don't spend money. They are always spending up to the cap just not smartly. They just signed dlaw to another 30 million guaranteed instead of cutting him, another waste for 1 tackle a game dude.

2. You're missing the boat on this one. It is about money, but has absolutely nothing to do w/ being cheap. Problem is, both Jerry n son are both NFL morons, so they have no idea how to spend the money to succeed. Don't forget, there is an NFL min as well as a max.

I'm normally in agree with you; however, not this time.

Stephen Jones is has this team operating much more like a legit NFL front office anytime since Jimmy departed.

Stephen empowers the 'football' people. Dan Quinn, McClay, etc..

They now cut players and move on. Jerry would always hang on to players far too long trying to prove a point and because he would get attached to them.

Garrett would have remained the HC if Stephen was not involved. Jerry loved Garrett.
- Dez and Witten would still be on the team making top money at their positions.

Stephen's biggest weakness was listening to Marinelli.
- Ciscowski was replaced by McClay in large part because Ciscowski failed to get coaches input leading up to the draft.
- Stephen went over-board to resolve that issue and ended up giving Marinelli too much input.
- Now the word is that McClay and Dan Quinn loved working together on last year's draft.

Stephen basically took over football operations in 2013 and then moved McClay up to the top talent acquisition job in 2014.
- Stephen become totally in charge once he pushed Garrett out the door.
- Now all football people report to him and Stephen reports to Jerry; whereas, Garrett reported directly to Jerry.

Brent Urban?

We have found the one Stephen Jones fan in the universe, noted.
Stephen is definitely less attached to players or people but I don't necessarily consider that a plus.
He is boring and one note. Immensely unlikable.

Brent Urban would have been quite nice to have versus SF.
He was a solid interior option before injuring his arm and being a sieve for a week or so before they IR'd him.
Dallas DT depth wore down badly once he was out.
And he is likely cheap.

#1 receiver should always have the most targets.5 to 10 yd targets are only going to get you so far.
On the same number of targets Schults had ~55 less receiving yards and the same number of TDs.
Amari was simply not explosive or efficient enough as a pure WR1.

CeeDee had ~300 more receiving yards and .7 yards more PER TARGET.

LOL!! TV execs couldn't dream up better characters and plots.

Jerry can charm a cobra without a pungi flute.
I hope Stephen leaves everything up to a GM. He's a cold fish.

While this is true, a lot of that had to do w/ the QB as Dak’s tunnel vision often times prevented him from seeing Amari “down the field” opting for shorter passes which is why Amari actually called him out.
