I don't think JJ goes from 11 draft picks to 5. I wouldn't mind moving up for a couple of potential "studs" or starters though.

We can't trade the "potential" 3 compensatory picks, but that said. Even if we choose 11, no more than 5 will make it to the final cut - and that would be pushing it.

Out of this list, at least 3 ( maybe 4 ) should/will be back because of either potential and/or special teams:

Allan Ball
Courtney Brown
Carlos Polk
*Steve Octavian/Kevin Burnett.

Canty is gone. Burnett might be gone too, but I have a feeling he'll return. I think Zach is gone too. Everyone else is = C-ya.

Cowboys are not going to draft 11 players in the draft. They're either going to move up in the draft or move some of those picks for next year value, or even both.

You can't trade the potential 2 or 3 comp picks, but you can trade the other picks you have in those same arounds.

IF they get a 4th round comp, that would make it THREE 4th rounders. Now, one way to go about it is that you can draft all you're going to need with your 2nd, 3rd, three 4ths, and either comp 6th and/or comp 7, which would equal a total of 7 players ( still a bit much ) and trade the rest of the picks.

Or you can use one of the three 4ths to move up in the 2nd round. Or use the 3rd ( which is high ) to move up into the late 1st round. Or just simply move the 2nd round pick for a 2nd rounder next year and start in the 3rd round.

There are many, many, many scenarios the Cowboys can choose from.

I'd like to see them draft 11 guys. Most likely it wont happen.]

If it did, we'd see 7 at most make the team.

Id like to see us move up and get that one stud in the draft either early second or late first? Draft needed positions(LB,DT,O-line) and try to get back that 5th rounder in 2010 we gave up for Holland.

What positions we cut will largely depend on what positions we draft. Save this thread for after the draft...

How about we cut the guys who can't tackle: Courtney Brown, Allan Ball, Anthony Henry, Roy Williams. The guys who can't Block: Proctor, Berger. The Guy who can't throw: Johnson and the guys who can't keep their mouth shut: TO, Ellis..

As others have mentioned.

Chances are we will not wind up using all 11 draft picks. We will wheel and deal to move up or move down for some future picks.

Jerry does not like to sit still in the draft.

Cap Cuts:

Greg Ellis
Roy Williams
Anthony Henry
Bobby "Barbie" Carpenter

Cuts:

Pat McQuistan
Cory Proctor
Joe Berger
Pat Watkins
Bobby Carpenter/see cap cut
Justin Rodgers
Keith Davis

The bad for team chemistry cuts:

iOwens
Gregg Ellis/see cap cut
Pacrat/gone
Water Pistol/might as well be gone

On thin ice:

Doug Free
Courney Brown
Patrick Crayton/possible trade

Allan Ball played well when he played. He moves up to number 4.
I hope Tra Battle sticks for depth at SS.
Keeping Carlos Polk would be nice.

Edit: added Keith Davis

I wish Canty and Burnett would be re-signed. Polk and Zach Thomas would be nice too.

Do you realize how thin our LB corps could be in 2009?

Ware
Ellis ???
Carpenter
James
Rogers
Spencer

If Ellis were to go we'd almost have to bring back Burnett and Thomas. That is simply too many spots to fill.

I would keep Burnett over Ellis, but that may just be me. He's younger by far and infinitely more athletic, which is what we need at LB. We have Spencer, who I still like at SOLB... so I say give Greg's money to Burnett and let the guy try to be a version of Edwards that played so well for Phillips in SD.

So thats about 12 people gone? I agree with most of those releasings, but I'd like to get any pick for either RW,Ellis or Henry. I would have to keep Bobby and Rogers since the LB core depth will be shot to hell. I'd like to see 2-3 FA signings and 6-7 draft choices.

Yeah, try to get some picks. I would shop Carpenter or cut him if I couldn't move him for a pick. The team needs to know that you can't just collect a big check and be a third teamer, imo. He isn't gong to ever start in Dallas, imo. Why wait? I think Carpenter can easliy be replaced by a late round pick or undrafted guy. Why keep paying him big money? His contract is really big.

That is just my opinion, as a fan.

I added Keith Davis to my cut list.

I'm sure someone mentioned this, but I'd be incredibly surprised if we end up drafting 11 players this year.
