And according the the crazies we are gonna compete for a championship. It’s best to be like me and look forward to having a great tailgate on wildcard weekend. Thats where we will be, nothing less and probably nothing more.

I haven’t seen anyone here predicting that this year. Even the most optimistic fans are still beat down after the loss in the playoffs. Some Looney Toon may go out on that limb by training camp but they’ll just be looking for a reaction.

Hate to say it but this year is the least excited for the draft I've ever been...hope it changes and we have a draft and second wave of free agency for the ages
I feel the exact same way. After the way the free agency period has gone I'll honestly just check in after the entire draft is over to see what Dumb & Dumber have come up with

2 year ago was the best. Not only was it an awesome draft for the Cowboys but it was the only sporting event going on because of COVID.

NFL draft day is USUALLY sort of like Christmas morning for me. Can’t wait to get the day started. But I don’t feel that way this year.

Don’t get me wrong, I am still looking forward to it, but this year I’m not as into it as most years. I got to thinking about the “WHY” that’s the case. This is what I came up with:

1. We don’t pick high, and in spite of most years when we pick low we have a good team that we are building on. At times I see this team as a smoke and mirrors team that had an artificially high record last year.

2. I’m not anti Dak, but we have a large enough sample size on Dak now for me to believe he wilts against the better competition. Now we have his massive contract dragging us down. I’m not excited about that. He played horribly in the last half of last year.

3. Too many holes to fill with draft picks. Even the most optimistic among us can see that.

4. The OL really sucks. Tyron is done. Biadasz is a pretender. Martin is PAST his prime. McGovern is looking like a miss. It’s a tragedy when you think that it is possible that Steele MAY outperform all his line mates. Let that marinate and sink in a little bit.

5. The selection of Joseph last year instead of Creed Humphrey really burns me out. I’m not a football savante, but anyone with half a brain could see that Humphrey was going to be a plug and play player at C and we reach for a guy who seems more interested in rapping than playing football and has been a headache everywhere he has been instead of Humphrey.

6. We used a franchise tag on a JAG tight end. Seriously? Wow. I like the player but you have got to be kidding me.

7. It’s frustrating when it takes a train wreck like Gregory to save us from overpaying him. Double wow.

8. Zeke is probably done and we are going to ride him like Troy Hambrick all year long.

9. I’m a season ticket holder but I must say my enthusiasm for the Cowboys is at a very low point right now.
Great post. I agree on most of your points.

You’re also a season ticket holder?

:laugh::lmao::lmao2:

You really pay good hard earned money on this garbage of a franchise? I quit going to games about 20 years ago once I realized it was all heading downhill and was likely to stay there.

Always take Friday off, and spend Saturday by myself just with the draft.
Like alot of people on here, have been very disappointed from the end of season till now. My hope is some how we can salvage this draft, with some smart picks. And maybe maneuvering. But not I'm as excited to the extent of years gone by. Here is one of my big *****es and some of you happy fans can chime in as to why.
I am kind of glad they have cleaned out some of the bigger contracts, and got lucky that our RDE went elsewhere. Money saved.
We always seem to resign a bunch of our own players to one year contracts, some times 2 year.
But that perpetually means we will have to do the same thing again next year - rinse and repeat. Our base is always thin, so no money to spend on any decent FA. Cause alot/ most of the money is spent on home grown players.
The model they have used (for years) is flawed.
And my optimism is not as high as previous years.
Zeke will be gone after this season if he can't get back to his early form. Another big salary down. Excuses getting thinner...

From reviewing threads and comments here at CZ - plus reading responses to draft articles at BtB -
there is so much disparity among Cowboys fans for how the team should pick, and whom.
Trade up or back /offense or defense/ position preference -priority/ particular player wanted.
No matter what Dallas does Thursday night with the 24th selection ....80 to 85% of the fanbase will express displeasure with what happens.

I hear you. We had a very disappointing playoff performance and have done little in free agency. We’ve lost two of our top four receivers and have the 24th pick in the draft. Not a lot to get excited about.

More like this.................nice to see the Cowboys making the right decisions for once and getting rid of high priced players not living up to their salaries. Cooper was a 22 million dollar luxury we didnt need. Lamb easily replaces him and Gallup was signed at a bargain price at 12.5 million per year. Washington was signed at a great price and is better than Wilson who got overpaid.

Letting Collins go was an even better decision. Gives me hope they will dump Zeke next year as soon as they can. Cowboys clearly understand that interior Oline is the biggest need and will probably take one with our first round pick.

Glad they didn't give away the house for Gregory on a long term deal and stuck to their guns.

Resigned important FA's like Kearse and Hooker at safety, got LVE back for peanuts and used the franchise tag wisely in order to hold onto Shultz. Heck they even made a brilliant move reducing Lawrence yearly cap hit all while extending him at the same time.

Somehow they went from 25 million over the cap, signed all these guys and were now 25 million under the cap before the draft with money to spend on players that we dont fill with the draft.

Now they obviously still have work to do, but so far from where we started, its pretty incredible what they have done. Could have been much much worse.

I'm hoping for a complete trainwreck of a draft and our first round pick is a total head scratcher. And ends up being a total bust.
Yes. I have completely turned on this team. I'm only hear because I haven't been banned yet.

It's not just about the draft, our team, and the players they draft. It's also about the treachery of moving up to steal a player, idiocy, and atrocities committed by people against players.

Who knows when a pic of someone wearing gas mask smokin' away will surface on draft day? Or some fool trades way up to draft Mitch Trubisky? Or when the Eagles drafted a punt returner and a backup QB with their first 2 picks while we drafted Lamb and Diggs. Anything can happen. Someone could get slapped!!!

They know it’s gotta be OL. But I don’t like how many first round WRs they brought in for the 30 visits

Me too! I usually do a lot of research on the players in the draft but this year I feel why bother? I just have this awful feeling they will do something unexpected this year and we will be scratching our heads for a while. This should be an easy draft for Dallas considering they left a gaping hole in the OL. But I fear Jerry will invoke "we like our guys" and do something splashy and senseless.

I know my feelings are unrealistic then maybe Jerry does the right thing and I am pleasantly surprised.
