In the offseason I heard alot about how the Boys were going to the 12 personnel as their base offense. I haven't seen any 12 personnel in the preseason. I'm not a fan of the 12 Offense by the way. Why haven't we seen it more?

First, the 12 personnel is a proven formation in the league with a great deal of benefits. Second we used 12 a lot today.

Maybe they're actually being smart about it and not running it so much if the 3-WR set puts better players on the field.

It was more 13 personnel today. The 3 wides were mainly saved for 3rd downs. Not much to our TE so the Giants don't get an idea of how we use Escobar/Hanna

12 personnel works great if the TEs can block.Unfortunately for us we have 1 average blocker and 3 terrible ones.

I can't recall seeing it tonight when romo was in the game.

They ran it a few times, even with Romo in, putting two TE's to the same side.

I agree though, this looks a lot like every other, "We are running the 12 this season" season where we abandon it very early. Hopefully they're just holding back.

I think a lot of you are struggling to recognize the 12 formation.

We don't have 21 anymore.

The vast majority of the offense is 12 and 11, and we didn't use all that much 11 with Romo. So, I'm not sure where this is coming from.

Sometimes it's tough to pick up depending on the view when they line up side by side.

They don't have a 2nd TE who's capable of both receiving and blocking

Opened up 2 TE.

Pretty much.

I think they'll go quite a bit 3WR sets this year just like they did last year.

They've never really used the 12 as much as people have been lead to believe. 1/3rd of the time, maybe a little more for any season IIRC.

All of the TEs have been quiet this preseason. Even Witten hasn't been thrown to much. It's nice to see Romo throwing to different people. Lots of weapons on offense.

We ran the 12 and 13 sets frequently.

3 WR sets were only 3rd downs/2 minute basically and everything else was 12.
We didn't run any 2 back sets that I saw and zero 4 WR sets so it was all basic 12 or 3 wide.
Escobar, Hanna and Rosario all played a fair amount.
It was obviously 12 ont he play where Romo cussed out Escobar and sent him to the sideline with the confused look on his face.

I think our main two sets for the season will be the 12 and 3 wide sets.
3 wide will depend upon health and how fast TW picks up the offense.
We'll go 12 as a base run set.

The 12 was somewhat tricked up as we had the 2nd TE in the backfield a decent amount at least to start plays.
They seem to like Hanna there.

Until tonight the entire offense has been quiet except Tanney and the back up RBs.
We've been about as generic and bad as you can be.
Tonight they finally decided to play the starters and go score some points.

It'll be worse in the last game. The Starters will barely touch the field.

BUT we've been told TEs are killing it in practice sessions. It's probably because the new 12 set stuff just isnt making it to game days yet.

I would think that that 12 packages will be used more when it creates more mis-matches from the opposing team...but, I agree with others that they probably don't want to tip their hand to the Giants....

I have to say that I have thought similar things that were said by the OP. I have been chomping at the bit waiting to see success from the 12. I am patient for now hoping that they will unleash it in the first few weeks of the season

you might see Escobar in street clothes a lot this season because he's just not strong enough to play in this league right now..
