The first day of free agency was solid, but it needed to be more than that. I like that Dallas was active and clearly trying to land the players they wanted, but after years of sitting on the sidelines and shopping in the bargain bin, it still feels like they left something on the table.

I keep coming back to Quay Walker and Nakobe Dean. Yes, both got paid, but it’s frustrating that Dallas lost out—especially to the Raiders. That says a lot. The Cowboys don’t feel like a destination anymore. Players are going where the money is, and Dallas isn’t willing to push far enough.

Jerry Jones’ charm worked in the 90s, when Dallas had the allure of being a championship team. That pull is gone. Now it feels like an owner struggling to stay relevant as a GM. Jerry once again seems out of his league. He is both the GM and the owner and could have done more on the defensive side of the ball. The talk about “busting the budget” doesn’t line up with what actually happened.

Quincy Williams, Boye Mafe, and Alontae Taylor were all there, yet we sat back and watched other teams snatch them away. Linebacker and defense were clear needs.

Overall, the Cowboys did okay. But okay isn’t good enough. This should’ve been a great start to free agency—not an average one.

Players like Las Vegas. I would have paid more and gotten Walker though.

I would have paid more for what the Raiders were offering as well. What is 1 to 2 million more.

This is not what I call busting the budget. I hope their not giving up a 2nd rounder for Patrick Queen.

But paying more is why we end up with no depth and high risk/reward players who aren't on the field enough. I think the thing that is broken around here is the belief that HOF players is what wins championship instead of a really solid roster across the board with maybe 1 or 2 standout players. We had more pro bowlers than Seattle last year and obviously weren't even close to the team they had.

I'm not sure about that. The reason we lack depth is that we are terrible at drafting and dole out big contracts to our underperforming homegrown players.

As a result, we go into free agency signing bargain-bin players who don't amount to much.

They might as well focus more on undrafted free agents as backups. At least they are cheaper, and we can easily get rid of them if needed.

I think they were shocked when Dean + Walker signed with the Raiders.

Day 2 is just as depressing. They didn’t go after Leo Chenal.

Jerry is just incompetent as a GM. Bust the budget? Yeah, right.

It’s akin to a guy swearing he’s going to take that 25 foot plunge into the water off of a bridge in Maui. Only to stand on the precipice and balk.

Closest thing is simply Jerry is just a businessman and businessmen love to use catchy buzzwords.
