He fills a need. His neck is still a concern due to the position he plays. Devonte Holloman was a promising LB who retired after a year due to neck injury.

This is just wrong.

All the BSU LB did not try to stack but instead flank and playoff shoulders. He is not soft and avoid contact that is shown in spades when he plays off OL shoulders scrapes down the line and finishes. And frankly most NCAA ever coming out struggle taking on blocks. He holds better than Raquon Smith and Edmunds with worse handwork.

He is not lost in coverage. He anticipates crossing routes an route combinations buzzes them and jumps routes using rare fluidity to turn and run with receivers. His football IQ us excellent. He doesn't bite on playfakes.

And he is a 4.6 guy which is plenty fast then of course his agility and burst drills are off the charts. He can burst to the sideline easily. He gets excellent depth on his backpedal. As long as he is not manned up on WR he will be fine.
Nice report.

Listening to his post draft interview, he sounds really smart and funny, he was my favorite of the players that were left, glad we didn' get Ridley

Mountain West. One year.

He's got some tools, but I just don't like it. Not at #19. Then again, I didn't like much that was there for value at #19.

On another note: Where did all the people go who wanted Landry?

He didn't start his Sophomore year but he played more snaps than the starting MIKE and team captain.

San Diego St, Fresno St, and Washington St were all ranked conference opponents when BSU played them.

Vander Ech was projected 30 or lower.
The kindest thing you ruffians can say is "We filled a need."
Yes, we did.
And let the DT spot wanting.
WITH JAYLON AND LEE, IT WAS NOT A CRITICAL PICK!!!
WHAT WENT WRONG, Jerry bloke? A collective brain fart?
We could have had the fat boys and a killer DT.
O death.
Holla, because, together, we can work it out. Except this unwarranted first pick.

He is a pure MLB which will allow Jaylon to move to the outside. Once we trade for Earl Thomas, the defense will be set. This is about value. There are plenty of WR, DL and OL left in the second round. I was a little surprised they didnt try to move up two slots when derwin james was still on the board. Maybe they tried. I like the pick. The guy is a big MLB which helps in the run game and will cause the QB to have to look over him in the passing game. Great pick

Not going to be any wr's if we trade for ET with a 2nd rounder. Fortunately, this is not happening.

Exactly, it’s an indictment on Jaylon I’m afraid. He looked quite bad last year so understandable pick.
Actually I think they are still confident in Jaylon and banking on him. I think its Sean Lee they are more concerned about due to his age. If he's 32 now...how much longer does he have?

Bull ......... you have never watched the kid play.
Waaaah. We gotta draft defense! We draft LVE...

He isn't the defense we needed because Voch cherry picked him not taking on blocks...waaah.

Can't win with this fanbase.

Holloman had the same issue as Irvin. Spinal stenosis and injured his neck twice. He was done after the second time. They didn't want to take the chance of paralysis.

Of course he’s replacing Lee. But that’s what Jaylon was supposed to do. Maybe we can make Smith into a strongside backer but I’m skeptical.

Man, after thinking about now for a while, this draft was always going to be about the rounds after round one for us. We have to hit on those more than we had to pick the least not safe person in the first.
