If the Cowboys had somehow bumbled their way into the playoffs this year or the one before it, there would be absolutely no threads like this.

This is not true. Perhaps I am one of a very small segmant but I remember what it used to be like before the Cap, FA and expansion. I liked watching football more then then I do now. I thought the football, top to bottom, was better. Has nothing to do with the Cowboys being in or out. Just a simple observation from my point of view.
