2,500 yards from scrimmage is a number never reached in NFL history. Below list is RBs who have topped 2,300 yards.

Code:
Player Team Yards Season
1. M. Faulk Rams 2,429 1999
2. T. Barber Giants 2,390 2005
3. L. Tomlinson Chargers 2,370 2003
4. B. Sanders Lions 2,358 1997
5. S. Jackson Rams 2,334 2006
6. L. Tomlinson Chargers 2,323 2006
7. M. Allen Raiders 2,314 1985
8. E. James Colts 2,303 2000

Only two active RBs (LT and SJ) have come close. So, between LT and SJ, which RB will have best chance to hit that magical number of 2,500 yards from scrimmage?

Or will it be another RB not on above list?

Jackson has come out twice this year and said that mark is his goal this year. I had no idea he had more YFS than LT last year though.

It's odd that couple of 2,000 yard rushers didn't get to 2,300 yard marker.

346 carries and 90 catches is just unreal. Jackson has plenty of room to grow in his YPC, so I'd guess he's more likely to reach it. Tomlinson did have 100 catches in his third season, but that looks to be a major anomaly. I doubt he gets close to that in Norv's offense.

Dark horse candidate: Frank Gore.

I think his receiving numbers will only get better and I expect him to gain 1000 on the ground this year

someone is gonna break him in two before the season ends. He won't make it to 2,000

Jackson does have "room to grow" but it is far more likely that we saw his best overall performance last year - the Rams know they are going to kill him if they continue to use him that way -- especially since they play on concrete. They did draft Leonard in round 2 and have a decent stable of 3rd down type backs now -- so my sense is that they don't want him getting so many touches. Don't think they aren't keenly aware of the LJ-Chiefs issues across the way. Last year they treated SJ like a rental car. If they do it again this year and the next, he might break 2,500 but they'll be asking themselves, "who the hell wants to buy a rental car? this one's is only a few years old but the miles...."

I think he will get 1000 rushing and receiving -- he'll also have some nice return yards. I love watching him -- he's not going to be an everyday back though.

After he was back in the game 1 play after taking that wicked hit in the eagles playoff game I stopped doubting his toughness

toughness has nothing to do with someone breaking his bones.

Another reason why we shouldn't have made the 2004 trade...

Funny, I had the same thought.

But when you really consider what it would take to get 2500, is it really that wise.

I mean you have to be talking about a special RB to start with. With a guy as good as a Tomlinson, why risk it. Why risk losing him to injury or even just have him worn down by seasons end.

If I'm SD and I have a back up like Turner. Why am I gonna risk losing or going into post season with a diminished Tomlinson.

What's the goal here? Set records or win titles.

I took as much pride in Emmitt's rushing titles as any Cowboy fan. But there was always a part of me at the time that felt we should be a little more cautious with him.

Seeing Tiki's name on that list just reminded me how happy I am that he is retired. What a thorn in Dallas' side he was.
If he stays healthy, LT all the way;)

No joke, I was surprised that Eric Dickerson wasn't on that list... he prob isn't far behind tho.

Did I miss something regarding Edgerrin James retiring? If not I would say 3 active RB's came close.

Agreed. They went out and drafted Leonard to play FB but also to be a Steven Jackson type player when Jackson is out of the game.

Leonard is a good runner as well as a receiver out of the backfield.

They want to utilize him early and often to keep Jackon fresh and healthy and prolong his career.

I don't think Jackson sniffs it this year.

Push came to shove and I had to choose, I'd probably go the safe route and choose LT.

But whomever said Gore....I gotta admit, I like that pick. Gore ran for over 5 ypc behind their OL. Give him more touches and he has the talent to do so.
