Rolando McClain Exercise
The run stuffer. Every team needs them. Short yardage or goal line scenarios they are critical. During the game you plug them in the first two downs then get your nickle guys in after that. So much for the 90’s. Run stuffers are now one down players as second and anything but short yardage is now generally viewed as a passing down in today’s NFL.
What does this mean for (suspended) MLB Rolando McClain and Japser Brinkley who are both run stuffing masters? McClain can be effective to a degree in the passing game due to his incredibly freaky athletic abilities, however he is not a cover LB. Brinkly is just that, an armored car with a bad attitude who can build up some momentum if you give him a couple steps. Why are they needed?
Two teams come immediately to mind that will attempt to spread they Cowboys defense and run the ball on them. Seattle Seahawks and the St. Louis Rams are both partial to the “spread gash attack” . It may be 2015, but one NFL cliche still holds true. The first job of a NFL defense is to stop the run. That’s why McClain from the LB position and Nick Hayden from the 1T should have a critical responsibility to fulfill for many years...
