2 great qb backup possibilities in the draft

I like John Beck from BYU as a backup to groom. Or maybe the Zanbrisky kid from Boise State.

Ware and Klingler make me leery of Houston prospects and I shouldn't be.

I don't care for Tate at all.

If you're looking for a late rounder to groom, I'd suggest looking at Luke Getsy of Akron.

Kolb is a good QB,but if they like Baker then getting a vet as a backup is a must.

Are people really still throwing this out there? :lmao2: :lmao: :laugh2:
Sure. Why wouldn't they be? CFL all star QB who led the league in passing again. 2 Grey Cup wins. Tall, smart, accurate, cool under pressure. Definitely worth signing.

i'd take a guy like zebranksy over both of them posers in a heartbeat

Kolb will be drafted by Houston to be their QB of the future in either the 2nd or 3rd round. most likely 2nd rd

The best QB choice for Dallas is Colt Brennan from Hawaii. Because firstly, we don't need a QB so don't waste a high pick. Brennen could be had in the third or fourth round. Second, he's still young (a junior), very teachable, backed up Leinart, played under June Jones and broke the record this year for TD's and Yards in a season. He could sit behind Romo for years and still be viable and not be hampered by high expectations.
Plus, I live in Hawaii so I'm biased.

That would be nice, but some people think he will go in the first or second round. If he's there with our second pick I say pull the trigger on him.

He's not that young, though, he will be 24 when next season starts. Kinda old for a rookie.

If he can play and there's a need, take him. Newman was 24 or 25 when we drafted him. That bugged me at the time when Terrell Suggs was barely 21, but I can't say Newman has disappointed me.

Will Brennan declare though? I thought he was going back to school.

I don't think we need a QB but if we are looking at a young QB, just depending on how he falls in the Draft, I'd be very interested in Stanton. I just like him.

You have never seen Tate play,[horrible]

From what I understand, he didn't look all that good at the Shrine game practices either.

Well, Hos we don't really know yet. He filed the paperwork befoe the deadline but is still mulling over whether to withdraw his name from the draft. Honestly I think he will because he's gonna have to sit his rookie year and put on another 10-15 pounds of muscle as well as learn the pro game. Being a 25 year old rookie and setting himself back another year startingwise in 08 is a bit less desirable imo.

BTW, I would love to draft Brennan if it is possible and prudent for us to do so. I think he's gonna be a very good player in the league and even if Romo becomes the star we all hope he'll be then we could always parlay Brennan into a high draft pick

I'd be very careful with Brennan. He has some history behind him. I believe he is a transfer from Colorado. He was involved with that whole mess up there. Has actually been arrested for breaking and entering or some such thing. Also some issues with him and a young girl. Broke into her room and something was done but I don't remember what it was.

Tate...no way

he didnt even look like a draftable prospect in a couple games I saw him play

David

Amen. I live in Iowa and to hear the mediots tell it, you'd think Tate was the second coming of Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, and Dan Marino all rolled into one. I just don't see where he's any great shakes. He's a decent college QB, not a great one, IMHO.

Yeah, we're aware of his past (he was eventually convicted of trespassing, not sexual assault as the girl charged. This was four years ago and he seems to have put it behind him. He's been an exemplary student athlete here at UH and has done the best he could with the second chance June Jones gave him.

EDIT: Moot point. Brennan just announced he's going to return for his senior season. Hawaii 2007 WAC Champs, baby!

Yep, Colt's staying at UH. Good for us!!
Problem is, it is and will be the same story for any QB from Hawaii. He's gonna' have to overcome the usual mainland stories about his numbers being over inflated because of June Jones and the Run 'n' Shoot. He'll lose cred because he plays in WAC, in Hawaii, and it's midnight on the east coast even IF Hawaii is on TV. Timmy Chang's story didn't help. He set the all-time NCAA yardage record and other great numbers, didn't even get drafted, and the last I heard he was in NFL Europe in the Eagles system and not even starting there.
Even during the last week, I heard it alot from the ESPN-heads and other "experts". The old "it's the system", "anyone can get those numbers in that program", and the usual comparisons to the Houston QB's Andre Ware and David Klingler, another couple of bust in the NFL after playing the Run 'n' Shoot in college.
Brennans rode to respect will be a long one no matter what. I hope he's the one to put the stereotype to bed.

I like Kolb BUT he'll be drafted within the first three rounds so he's out of reach. Tate, I'll pass on. I prefer to take a shot on James Pickney from East Carolina. He's the prefect developmental QB in my opinion. 6-3, 220 w/ all the physical attributes you'd want. If available w/ our 5th rounder, I'd take him.....

Not sure about WAC champs. I think Boise State might have a little bit to say about that but it will be a new season and hope runs eternal in those situations.

As for Brennan, I am not interested in investing in any QB who has the kind of past he does. He may indeed have it all figured out but on the other hand, UH is like playing in a fish bowl. It's a very controlled setting in comparison to other situations. Once he gets into the Pros, that control goes away and then who knows what happens. He could go right back to where he was at Colorado. JMO.
