Marc Columbo's injury allowed us to DISCOVER Doug Free can play. We have our LT of the future right here on this team. And he will only get BETTER

Roy Williams getting hurt allowed us to discover Miles Austin can play. We now know we have a very solid 75 catch 1100 yards 11 TD WR.

Now while I am glad this has happened....I am UPSET that this front office/coaching staff does NOT trust what they see on the practice field. If they did, Roy Williams would NEVER have happened. If they did then you JUMP at the Bengals offering a 1st for Marty B because you KNOW what you have in Jon Phillips. This teams stubborness to not trust the eyes of the scouts and coaches is a PATTERN. Is it Jones, is it Wade? Who is it?

Should I continue? We don't trust Matt Moore so we roll with Brad Johnson and try to SNEAK Matt Moore on the practice squad. Choice shows he is an NFL back AFTER Barber gets hurt. The list goes on and on...

We knew we had something in Miles Austin last year. He had 3 touchdowns before he, Hurd, and Stanback all got hurt and we had to trade for Roy Williams. We only traded for Roy because we were scared about our lack of depth at wide receiver.

If Roy Williams gets hurt again, maybe it will show us Ogletree can play too? :laugh2:

Even though it's funny...I think you are dead nuts right. He looks explosive "when" he gets chances.

I'm happy that this owner and coaches knew these players had talent and stuck with them instead of listening to the peanut gallery who wanted to cut them. Hell many here did not think Miles was any good and as I recall the word was Dallas did not know how to draft a lineman which looks like the peanut gallery was wrong on that too. Fact is the peanut gallery is not right about many things but use the luxtury of monday morning QB knowledge to attack the coaches and owner of this team.

I wouldn't say that Free is better than Columbo at this point, but you're right that we now know that we have a talent in Doug Free. I hope he can replace Flozell one of these days.

Also, I've noticed that Flo has cut down on the stupid penalties lately. Has he been feeling Free nipping at his heels?

team in general has done a better job in not having penalties. In this game we had 4 penalties on the night.

Wade took the heat when they were making many penalties and he and his staff deserve credit for getting a handle on the problem.

Jerry had been wanting to trade for him well before they got hurt.

Playing right tackle is different than playing left tackle. I don't know if Free has proven he is the left tackle of the future yet. He is playing well and I am happy about that, but I think the question of who will be the future left tackle is still open. Dallas would be wise to draft one or two guys to try and fill that role. Even if Free ends up winning that position next year it is always good to have quality depth behind him.

Agreed and if anything whoever they draft, if Free wins the LT job, they can slide over to RT or as you stated depth at OT or OG.

I think Free can excel with the speed rushers but might struggle with the bull rushes and possibly in the run game. I have said before that he and Flo seem to have opposite strengths and weaknesses.

The talent development game can be a very frustrating one.

One can pick out examples like Austin or Jenkins and claim their talent was obvious and should have been trusted earlier. But in other cases that practice talent just never seems to emerge in the games, or isn't quite ready to. Timing in many situations, is everything.

Remember when Austin & Felix couldn't stay healthy to the point it appeared they could not be counted on? Suddenly, for no apparent reason, they both appear plenty durable.

Right now folks are sorely tempted to trade MartyB for that 1st because he still hasn't broken through. Remember when almost everyone was shocked when we passed up the Jets 3rd round offering for Romo?

Its the same reason the team continues to hang with Roy Williams. Its the belief that there is eventual payoff even while it appears currently to be banging your head against a brick wall.

So what, this happens all the time to all teams, doesn't mean coaches don't trust what they see on the practice field. If Bledsoe doesn't get hurt New England has zero championships.

That never happened. A 4th and a now deceased WR was the closest I have seen to sounding remotely accurate, courtesy of a thread from yesterday. Did you have some proof there was a first offered or just more rumors?

So you are saying their love child would be the perfect LT?:laugh2:

I thought the same thing before Doug Free's last three or four games. He is not that suseptible to Bull Rush as I originally thought. Colinsworth comments during the game last night, solidified what JErry was saying already about Doug Free, combined with what I have seen with my own eyes.

Doug Free is future at LT, no doubt in my mind. He might not be a pro-bowl type, but I am pretty sure, he will be a pretty good to Sollid LT for Cowboys for many years, barring injuries. He handled Justin Tuck very well on Bull Rush etc.

Now, playing a Julius Peppers would be completely different, since he just abused Bryan McKennie, who thought, might be one of the best LT in game right now. But Peppers is just a physical Freak, and there is only one of them in NFL right now. Where Free would be good at is, against likes of Freeney, the speed guys. Either way, I think Lt can't be concern right now.A good prospect at RT might be the need on Tackles. And then Guards and Center.

I am one of those.

I thought he was JAG who has the size and speed but that's it. Like Yakuza Rich in regards to Romo, I'll come out and say I was dead wrong.

I still love me some Sam Hurd, but there's no comparison between the two now.

Sam Hurd backs up Roy Williams' position, and if it were up to me, I'd be informing Roy Williams that Sam Hurd is starting in his place from now on. I would then use Crayton as the #3 WR up to the 20 yard line and only use RW11 as a third receiver in certain red-zone packages.

I'm not going to sit here and tell you I knew Miles would be as productive as he has been. What kills me though is seeing fans who will make a case for one player over another and feel the need to rag on the other player.

It is like Jenkins and Scandrick and how people felt the need to support 1 of them and dump on the other, I just don't get that mindset.

I have never wanted Hurd to fail because I like Austin the truth of the matter I like both guys and have always hoped they would both develop into contributing members of this team. Miles no doubt has gone beyond my expectations.

I've always liked both Austin and Hurd. They're very different players, but I have no doubt that Sam Hurd would be playing at a higher level than Roy Williams right now if we were to make the switch to him full-time. Sam was absolutely tearing it up in training camp, and I don't think he's ever had much chance to get into a real rhythm.
