Morris is a dead man walking in a Cowboys jersey and everyone in the NFL knows it.

I'm a McFadden fan, but no way I'd trade Morris, especially if he keeps running like he did Thursday.
he is 3rd on the depth chart (or 4th?) and doesn't bring anything special to the table. and he doesn't play special teams. if he is to stay on the roster, then he has to play special teams. he was inactive for a lot of games.... if we get a 5th or 6th, lets do the deal

I think that people forget how good Geoff Swaim was for the Cowboys last year. It was a pretty big deal when he went on the IR last season. Not gonna make a ton of big catches, but damn can that boy block for a TE.

He's really good, but not as good a blocker as Hanna, and the fact he's good is what makes him attractive to other teams.

If he didn't have any remarkable qualities, then no one would be interested.

Teams don't trade for players they think you'll release anyway.

They do happen, though.

They trade because they want to guarantee they get control of said player rather than risk other teams getting in the picture. The Cowboys have made several trades at the end of camp dealing with players who would likely have been cut.

I'm starting to question the fixation with McFadden and I don't know if the team is as high on him as other people feel. After all, we did keep him as essentially a healthy inactive through the meat of our schedule last season.

Morris has a running style that is a better fit in our system but he does not have the attributes you want as a backup...he is a better starter. Smith does have some of those attributes more and I believe more long term upside considering how much he has improved since he has been in the league.

All of those things were true at the end of last season and they went with McFadden.. and then signed him again this offseason. For some odd reason, they really value him. It's mind-bending, imho.

I'd disagree, but we're splitting hairs on that whose the better blocker.

I'm hoping they keep four TEs. With an aging Witten, an unknown in Rico, and both Hanna/Swaim coming off injuries I think its possible we need all four.

I think that fourth guy is going to be one of the young players, either Jarwin or Hamlett, and they'll be fine. Witten, Rico and Hanna is an awesome 3fer and Jarwin can give what Escobar did.

100% agree. Obviously the team doesn't see things that way, though. I was shocked when Morris was deactivated toward the end of last season. I believe he fits our style of offense much better than McFadden. McFadden has more speed, Morris has more power. Perhaps it's because McFadden runs back kicks as well.

3 down back. Amoungst backups, they are a commodity. HB's that can run effectively are a dime a dozen. But ones that with both blocking and receiving skill sets arent

Two things to consider with Swaim 1) The Cowboys valued him enough to trade back into the draft for him 2) He is in a very cheap rookie deal.

He is a good player. #1 TE? Probably never. But he has that diverse skill set that makes him prefect for our #2 role. And he has formed a pretty solid rapport with Dak.

If 4 TE's isnt an option, I think they look to move Hanna via trade or release

If that was the case, you'd get no more than a 7th-round pick. Probably two drafts from now.

They just don't happen unless a team needs what you have and doesn't think you'll release the player.

A player wants to go where he's needed, so it's pretty easy to get a released player you want if you have a genuine need for him.

You are right.

We should just hoard all the talent we can.

Afterall, it worked so well when we have had other spare parts over the years that we knew we would never use, like Martellus Bennett, for example.

Just too valuable to trade. Just priceless. Hang onto them for another year and release for nothing. That is our pattern.

Bottomline, Dallas is not a team that likes to trade, but then again, nor does the organization do a very good job of developing relationships that allow that to happen.

Some of the best trades have come with Johnson (Haley) and Glenn (Parcells). Other than that, it is pretty scary.

It would be nice to see them flip a Morris or McFadden for a late round pick, but teams seem to always know they can wait us out.

The one thing the NFL hasn't figured out. I wish trading in the NFL was as big and exciting as it is in Baseball and basketball
The cap rules make it too complex for most GMs to figure out.

The pay structure has something to do with it, but even when there was no salary cap, you did not see much trading. That is more of an insider thing where teams agree for the most part to avoid them.

It is amazing how many times we ripped other teams off in player trades back in the 1970s though.

I think Jimmy made 150 trades by
Mid 1992!
They could get or give Picks for
Players.
They have to be willing to trade
good player's not just the scrubs.
