An interesting scenario which I think is pretty feasible. It covers most of our bases for this year but gives us an opportunity to have really special players for next year:

If, of course there is no way to move up for AD...

1. Take one of Jerry's opportunities to trade down...acquire what should be at worst a mid round first next year (don't want a trade with San Diego as they will probably be picking no earlier than 25th or so...).

2. Sidney Rice with our first #2 - potential gamebreaker with a little added strength
3. Drew Stanton with our second #2 - 2 years of development could be a pro bowl type qb if Romo falters or is injured...
4. Michael Bush with our #3 - anyone who saw him before his injury knows he is comparable to the best backs chosen in recent years...
5. Trade back up into round 3, draft Walter Thomas (DT)...surrounded by our mature character guys on D, this guy could develop into Leon Lett version 2.0. ( i know this is higher than he is projected, but i want to be certain to get him...)
6. With remaining picks this year, pick up C & CB (yes, I basically stand pat at FS unless something drops out of the sky)

7. Next year we have an opportunity to move to the top of the draft for a playmaker....

This would set us at major positions for the next 8 years...

I think other teams would ruin that scenario ...... thats the problem with predicting trades ...... there is always the assumption that all of the other 30+ teams stays where they are at.

But as far as wacky trade proposals ......... yours looks pretty good.

While I like the idea, I don't really like the players chosen. Sidney Rice is one of the least consistent WRs in the draft with half of his TDs coming in one game and his 100 yard performances coming against Wofford, Florida Atlantic, Houston, Clemson and Arkansas. The only legitimately strong school of those is Arkansas and Rice abused one of the most overrated players in the draft in the game. The fact that he didn't produce against top competition combined with the fact that he didn't time well scares me a lot. An early 2nd round pick is way too much to spend on this guy.

Drew Stanton is far from a potential Pro Bowler. In his college career he posted worse than average statistics in yards per game, TD per game, TD per attempt, TD per completion, interceptions per attempt, interceptions per completion, and overall TD to INT ratio. He has a cockiness that gets him into a lot of trouble on the field and is another overrated prospect.

While I don't dislike Michael Bush's ability, I do think that it's too risky to take him on the first day. Then there is Walter Thomas who was a dominant force at a community college.

All 4 of these players have huge bust potential. It's a draft heavy with overrated prospects who didn't produce well in college and haven't shown the physical tools necessary to warrant being drafted as highly as they probably will be. This draft gets a thumbs down from me.

Trades are almost impossible to predict......just too many variables.

The fact that you drafted Drew Stanton. with out 2nd round pick, makes your whole scenario mute. It fails

it works if someone falls in love with a player like Buffalo did with Losman. I like the idea better than sitting at 22.

in order for us to trade down, there has to be someone wanting to trade up, to get a player.

you do understand that concept right?

And like he already pointed out, Jerry claims he has two offers to trade down for a second and a first next year.\

And I hate his scenario, its full of gambles, taking them way higher than needed. Walter Thomas is an intriguing player but he isn't the only one like that, there is also LaRon Harris who has a similar bio/physical ability and has actually gotten himself in better shape. Regardless these guys should be late rounders or free agents. Bush is going to drop with his injury problems and Dallas isn't taking a qb in the second round, let alone Stanton.

But, what the other guy said, was you have to have someone really want someone who falls to your pick to trade up there with you.

He said it works both ways, and it doesn't. someone has to want to trade up, to give up picks. There is no other way.

Most likely if a player falls to 22, and Jerry is still there, then the teams will call up Jerry, and ask for the trade. Like buffalo with Losman.

I still don't see your point. Jerry has two offers already, he said that he could do one right now and not wait. There may be more offers on draft day, but its silly to say they might not get offers when they already have.

Jerry said they were on the table, but that doesnt mean that he can take them now.

I seriously doubt that a team has offered to move to the number 22 spot, without knowing if the player they want is gonna be there or not. It sounds like a draft day trade. Not a pre draft trade.

and my point is. Trades only work one way. A team HAS to want to trade up. Thats the whole reason the lions cant move out of the #2 slot. No one wants to give up that much to get there.

actually, Jerry said the offers were pre draft offers that could be accepted anytime before the draft...

not worth arguing over, but still...
