20/20 Hindsight

Been reading posts on the sight for a couple of years now, but this is my first post.

I remember during the off season when it was reported that the Saints were offering a high draft choice for Romo (it was rumored to be a 1, 2, or 3rd rounder). I must admit, I wanted to see that trade happen. I would have been happy with any of their 1st three picks, but imagine potentially scoring a 1st rounder for an undrafted free agent.

We got a 3rd from the Saints for Shanle, and I was going to be tickled to relieve NO of 1 of their other first 3 picks.

Fast forward to where we are now....I can't imagine how ticked I'd be if Romo were playing this caliber of football for another team and we were sitting here with Mr. Bledsoe, knowing that Romo had been here and we never gave him a look.

Hey, I'll be the first to admit that over the past several years I've coveted many of the bluechip QB's being drafted (Palmer, Rivers, Harrington, Brees, Carr, Boller, A. Smith, etc). Now, we've got an undrafted FA (making a fraction of what these other QB's are being paid), and I would be hard pressed to trade him for any of them (Palmer, Rivers....maybe).

Given how some of our higher picks that have not panned out (Peterman, Henson...3rd rounder to Houston), it really feels pretty good to think that Jerra might have pulled off the Great Train Robbery by getting a franchise QB for next to nothing.

I know that Romo is not ready for the HOF quite yet, but I have not been this excited about our guys since the early/mid 90's.
:welcome: to the forum.

Looking forward to more posts like this.

Wow, I guess that settles it. Spags was reporting a 7th.

Actually, the more i think about it I may be wrong. What I was looking at was a block dedicated to how Shanle was acquired and it indicated Dallas - 06. Now that i think about it that 06 probably stands for 2006 rather than 6th round draft pick.

Maybe 7th round is accurate.

Acquired by New Orleans from Dallas for an undisclosed draft choice, 8/23/06; Claimed off waivers by Dallas, 12/10/03; Waived by St. Louis, 12/9/03; Selected by St. Louis in the seventh round (251st overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft.

One source I found says 4th round pick and several other state an undisclosed draft choice in 2007 including the Saints site. Guess we may never know until the draft approaches.

This post is an excellent read. I think that if a team acquires an "average starter" at QB with a first round pick, then it was a pick well spent. In hindsight maybe the Saints should have offered a first rounder. I am glad they didn't, because the Boys might have taken it. If Romo keeps playing the way he is, he is gonna be a lot better than an "average" quarterback.

actually espn said it was a 4th also so you were right.
Well that CERTAINLY settles it if ESPN is reporting it. ;)

At the time, I thought we was crazy for not getting the draft picks...but, I would not trade ROMO for anyone today!

I think it was reported last year that the Jets offered a 2nd or 3rd for Romo

Actually I understand from NFL draft picks that we traded our 6th to KC for Fujita but got 2 picks in 7th round from NO & Jets(?) for Shanle & Ryan.
