20 Questions: 1, Can the Defense Make this Team a Contender

The defense could make them a contender. However it is unlikely. What I think happens is the defense ends up improving from last to near average while the offense stays in the top 5. Dallas will get bounced in the playoffs but it'll be exciting to at least make it that far with a little hope.

I think it really depends on 1. If we stay healthy and 2. When we play the Rams in the postseason (if we get there). If we don't have to play them (postseason, not talking about the game in December) until the NFCC, then we have a shot.

This is really the only thing coming out right now that seems legit.

Whether it shows on the field is still the big unknown.

“There's no way to know for sure until training camp and beyond, but I can say, unequivocally, that the energy/aura surrounding the defense under Christian Parker is a complete 180-degree turn from what it was under Matt Eberflus.

The players are fully bought in (that never once happened in 2025), there's a hunger to get on the field as soon as possible and the schematics combine with how the defensive staff has been constructed to fuel a rightful optimism.”

Post of the Day!!

Dallas defense was:
31st in yards per play
32nd in yards per pass
32nd in points per game (30.1)

The offense averaged 27.1 ppg

Middle of the pack defensive ppg was around 23.

If this defense just gets to middle of the road in ppg, shaving 1 td a game, and the offense plays consistant (doesnt have the 3 or 4 duds a year they normally do) then this is a playoff team.

Shoring up the yards per play is the focus. Especially in the passing game. Having a competent secondary will go a long way towards that. Yes, pressure will help, but wrs were running wide open last year 3 or 4 seconds after the snap.

Now, if the defense plays it way into the top 10 in points, we have Superbowl potential. Again, if Dak can string together three or four wins in a row against playoff caliber teams.

Im far more confident that this defense will be top 10 than I am Dak can perform in the playoffs. He has the ability, just not the consistency. But I hope he proves me wrong.

NFL football is NFL football. You have this weird little belief that you can make any move you want if you just want to badly enough.
I literally showed the math in this thread.

All the players that they brought in have less of a cap hit than the players that walked as FA.

It is simple math, there is no more nuance needed.
