20 Questions: 8 - does the new culture translate to the field

ah.... so that means you dont even need to watch this season, because we have a qb that cant get it done, so as long as Dak is in there, no need to watch.
Good point. Don't need to watch. Prob wont make the playoffs. If they do, they wont win anything beyond a WC game. No way on God's green earth they make a NFC championship game. Much less the ultimate goal. This outlook will not change until 4 is gone. Fans know it. Players know it. Coaches know it. He's not that dude.

And the defense? Dear lord. Football 101. Practice #1. Tackle the running back. If you can't stop the running back, you have no shot at doing anything else. 29 of 32 in rushing defense.
With the additions of superstars like Sanborn, Murray, Thomas, JToy I'm sure they fixed it.......

I was trying to make the point...... the only thing that changed for the "Great," Andy Reid, is that Larry Bird walked through the door...... in the name of Patrick Mahomes. And just like that, the "culture," was a winner.
Interesting how “great” coaches seem to have one thing in common….great players.

There are guys who can drag the most out of meh….maybe Parcells first season is a Dallas example, but that’s rare.

I get what you’re saying though and don’t disagree.

Idk if he is being negative, more of a realist. You can say all the right things in the offseason but it’s how you respond once you get punched in the mouth that matters most. Each time we’ve been punched, this team folds.

On a positive note, between the new staff, free agent signings, and draft picks there are 30+ new faces in the building but the owner is another story
Yeah, assume they get punched in the mouth, but also assume we will do the punching.
New year, teams can change drastically as we all seen.

But, Parcells was never able to do anything. He had no more success than JG.....

oh..... start naming off the greatest coaches since ... the 70s and they mostly have the same ting in common... a HOF qb.

There are exceptions. Joe Gibbs... though the seasons he won SBs, his qbs had HOF type numbers. I think when Rypen played for Gibbs, they may have broke scoring records. The other guys, Ditka and Parcells that had solid, but not spectacular QBs, had all time great defenses. Trent Dilfer didnt need to do much when your defense was literally giving up 0 points in almost every playoff game.

Well, he rebuilt the roster into a contender….but I was referring to his first season when he basically willed a very average Quincy Carter led team to the playoffs as an example of doing more with less. Not many can pull that off.

you know how many coaches that I could start naming that made a SB APPEARANCE>? A ton You think that number 2 defense takes them to ANY SB wins if Mahomes wasnt their QB? Not paying attention? Mahomes has been in the league as a starter for 7 seasons, played in 7 straight afc title games and 5 SBs. Dont talk to me about any defense or any coach. Reid was coaching KC for 5 seasons prior to Mahomes taking over and had a 1-4 playoff record... Id call that very Jason Garretty..... you know, basically he sucked. Mahomes took over and wala..... all of the sudden those defense were "Getting it done," and Andy clearly started putting in the extra time required to become a champion and now possibly the greatest coach ever........... trust me, I pay plenty attention. No mahomes, no titles, I dont give 1 damn what the defense did in any single game.
Of course Mahomes is great. And no the chiefs probably don’t win a SB without him.

But even Mahomes says they wouldn’t have won their last SB without their great D that basically won them the AFC championship game in Baltimore when Mahomes and the offense scored 17. I’m also a firm believer that even great QBs needs support to win championships.

I’m a big Texas Tech fan and loved watching Mahomes there for his 3 years at Tech. When he was there they never had a winning conference record. He was 13-15 as a starter at Tech because Tech never had much around him.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Mahomes. But even he will tell you that QBs alone can’t win championships. Put it another way, if Mahomes were in Big D with our roster the last two years, we don’t win a championship. Not enough support.

Parcells is the wrong guy to use to try and make your point. He proved himself to be a difference maker by taking three separate teams from the gutter to the SB/CCG and was on track for his fourth when age and Jerry put the brakes on that.

It's true that even the best coaches need players, but I don't think you're giving coaching enough credit. Reid might not win the SB without Mahomes, but it is just as likely Mahomes doesn't win one without Reid or his equivalent.

Culture is a very real component to building a consistent contender. It acts as a strong foundation on which to build. But the culture in Dallas won’t change until the ownership changes, either by changing his ways or by him no longer having anything to do with the franchise. Highly doubt you see any real culture change until then…and any success the team sees during any given year will be on shaky ground.

I didnt say he didnt do a good job... but ten straight years of doing that and no titles, gets you fired.

cmon.... you have been around this game longer than I have. Name me a single qb in history that doesnt say it was a team win? That what leaders do. That is why Shedur Sanders will never be a great qb. Great QBs bring the team with them.

Comparing his time at Tech and his time in the NFL is apples and oranges. During his time at Tech he had a JC roster compared to teams like Alabama. The differences in talent level at the college level from team to team can be ENORMOUS... even a player like Mahomes cant overcome that difference.

But in the NFL, the salary cap ensures that most teams have somewhat comparable rosters... except the QB. The QB, the truly GREAT QBS are enough to tip the scales. Thats why Peyton manning could go to a very mediocre Broncos team and immediately be in the top 4 teams in the league, lighting the league on fire.

Thats why a 40 something year od Tom Brady could go to a team that hadnt sniffed the playoffs in a decade and immediately win a SB. Thats why a Mahomes could take over a SOLID, but nothing special KC Chiefs team and immediately become a DYNASTY.

It is about the QB position with the way the rules now operate.

Reid I agree having a great QB goes a long way to winning a championship. Where we disagree is in believing that’s all it takes.

Who’s better - Mahomes or Jalen Hurts? Mahomes is way better. Who has the better team? The egirls unfortunately.

The Ciefs were avg all season, and still made the SB. Put Mahomes on the Iggles and the Iggles win the SB. Put Hurts on the Chiefs and they might not have made the playoffs.

And for the record, Ive NEVER said a great QB is all it takes, because there is more than 1 great QB in the league.
